According to the Asian Development Bank, ADB has approved a $300 million equivalent loan to support the green transition in Shanxi, China. The project will invest in low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure and services, including wastewater treatment and reuse facilities, new parks, and river restoration, as nature-based resilience building solutions to prevent flood risk and combat urban heat. The project also includes sustainable transportation, the introduction of electric bus services, and the construction of bus stops, safe sidewalks and cycle lanes using construction waste. A multi-functional ICT platform spanning multiple agencies will facilitate inter-agency coordination and improve government efficiency. The platforms will also provide recyclable materials for local industrial production. The total cost of the project is estimated at US$665 million, of which US$365 million will be provided by the government, beneficiaries and other sources, and is expected to be completed by 2030.
