The first domestic HA-class heavy-duty gas turbine officially rolled off the production line.

Recently, Harbin Electric Power Group's official WeChat announced that the first domestic HA-class heavy-duty gas turbine was successfully rolled off the assembly line in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province. Hebei Satellite TV reported that the 9HA heavy-duty gas turbine is 11 meters long and weighs a total of 400 tons, which can theoretically drive six aircraft carriers Liaoning.

The gas turbine is produced by Harbin Electric General (Qinhuangdao) Gas Turbine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Harbin Electric General Motors) and will be delivered to the Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone Integrated Energy Station in Huizhou, Guangdong.

Harbin Electric GeneralFounded in 2018, Harbin Electric (01133. HK) and GE Gas Power Co., Ltd., each holding 50% of the shares, is mainly engaged in the production of 9F and 9H gas turbines and key components.

The joint venture is located at GE's only gas turbine manufacturing facility in Asia. Ma Jile, president and CEO of GE's gas-fired power generation business, once told Jiemian News that unlike the technology transfer model previously adopted by the two companies, the joint venture model will make the cooperation between GE and Harbin Electric Group closer.

Gas turbines take natural gas as fuel and convert it into electricity. According to the combustion temperature from low to high, all kinds of gas turbines are divided into different classes between A and H, and H class is currently the most efficient gas turbine in the world. Class HA gas turbines represent the most advanced technology in the current gas turbine power generation market, where "A" stands for air cooling.

GE gas-fired power generation told Jiemian News that the 9HA gas turbine has stronger flexibility, can quickly start and adjust load, easy to compensate for the growing fluctuation of new energy power supply, and can reduce carbon emissions by 60% by replacing coal power with this type of gas turbine.

Heavy-duty gas turbines are suitable for use as peaking units in large urban clusters, complementing renewable energy sources. GE Gas Power said it has received orders for nine HA-class gas turbines in China, seven of which are from Dongguan, Huizhou and Shenzhen in the Greater Bay Area, with an installed capacity of nearly 5.74 GW, which can meet the electricity needs of more than 9.57 million households.

In January this year, GE Gas-fired Power also signed a long-term service agreement for China's first 9HA gas-fired power generation project, partnered with Guangdong Yuedian Marina Bay Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangdong Energy Group, for up to 18 years.

GE Gas Power is a business unit of GE Vernova and is responsible for the gas turbine power generation segment. GE is implementing a large-scale restructuring to merge its renewable energy, power generation, energy finance and other businesses into an independent company, using GE Vernova as a new name, and seeking to divest from GE in early 2024.

GE originally had four major divisions: aviation, healthcare, power generation and renewable energy, and the healthcare sector was listed separately earlier this year.
