Photovoltaic leader LONGi Green Energy (601012.SH) recently released two technological innovations.
On May 24, at the 16th (2023) SNEC International Solar Photovoltaic and Smart Energy (Shanghai) Exhibition, LONGi Green Energy held an innovation conference with the theme of "Turning Possibilities into Feasibles".
At the meeting, LONGi Green Energy released the R&D results related to perovskite technology. The company said that recently, according to the authoritative certification report of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) in Germany, LONGi Green Energy has achieved a conversion efficiency of 31.8% of crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells on commercial-grade suede CZ silicon wafers.
This efficiency has set a record of the top three in the world and the first in China.
Photovoltaic conversion rate refers to the efficiency of solar cells in converting solar energy into electrical energy, which is one of the important indicators of solar cell performance. The higher the conversion rate, the better the performance of the solar cell.
Previously, the efficiency of tandem cells developed by LONGi Green Energy exceeded 25.7% and 29.55% in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Perovskite cells are considered to be the third generation of photovoltaic technology due to their higher conversion efficiency and lower cost. However, it is difficult for single-layer perovskites to subvert the powerful crystalline silicon industry in a short period of time, and the stacking of crystalline silicon products is expected to accelerate the market's acceptance of perovskite technology, which has also become the choice of many leading enterprises.
In addition to perovskite tandem cell technology, LONGi Green Energy has released its self-developed silicon heterojunction concept product 2681, which is based on the technology that achieved an efficiency record of 26.81% crystalline silicon cells.
Heterojunction is one of the N-type technologies. In November last year, the company set a world record for silicon heterojunction conversion efficiency of 26.81%.
According to Jiemian News, the high performance of the 2681 concept product is mainly achieved through high battery open voltage and symmetrical battery structure, with a power generation power of 600 W, the highest module efficiency of 23.2%, a product size of 2278mmx1134mmx30mm, and a weight of 31.8kg.
Since April 2021, LONGi Green Energy has broken the world record for solar cell efficiency 14 times.
When it comes to battery technology, on May 23, Zhong Baoshen, chairman of LONGi Green Energy, said in an interview with Jiemian News and other media that in the next two or three years, ground-mounted photovoltaic projects will take TOPCon as the main technical direction, and in the field of distributed photovoltaics, back contact cells, namely BC cells, will dominate. Both types of batteries are N-type technologies.
"Last year, LONGi developed HPBC technology, which is very popular in the market. Zhong Baoshen said that this is the company's updated technology in the distributed market.
At the above-mentioned press conference, LONGi Green Energy also officially launched the STAR Innovation Ecosystem Collaboration Platform to the world. The platform aims to unite global partners to create a green energy ecosystem.
In order to discover innovative technical talents with outstanding talents in cutting-edge technologies and related fields on a global scale, LONGi Green Energy expects to launch a global technology challenge in the second half of this year.
In addition, it is expected that by 2024, LONGi will complete the digital construction of the open innovation platform. At the same time, the Global Innovation Fund recruitment is also expected to be completed in 2024.
