National Low Carbon Day丨Chongqing "Carbon Credits" Redeem "Bus Coupons"

May 15 this year is the 12th National Low Carbon Day, Chongqing Public Transport Group launched a new low-carbon Huimin initiative on the "Carbon Huitong" platform, citizens can directly scan the code or bind the bus card through the "Carbon Huitong" applet to take the bus, the "Carbon Huitong" platform automatically quantifies its emission reduction effect and gives carbon credits, and then uses carbon credits to exchange for bus coupons in the platform points mall.

According to estimates, citizens can get 1.1 carbon credits for each bus ride to reduce carbon emissions by about 120 grams, and the carbon credits in all scenarios of the platform accumulate to 20 points, which can be exchanged for a bus coupon with a face value of 2 yuan, and citizens can automatically deduct the same amount when scanning the code to take the bus.

"Carbon Benefit" Mini Program

It is understood that the project is the first time that Chongqing has realized the closed-loop operation of carbon inclusiveness of "low-carbon behavior-carbon emission reduction verification, realization-public incentive". The relevant person in charge of the total (climate) department of the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment said that the national and local carbon markets are mainly aimed at key high-emission industries and enterprises, and the voluntary emission reduction market has played a complementary role in the mandatory emission reduction market, while Chongqing's "carbon benefit" platform has supplemented and covered small and micro enterprises and public individuals, which not only enriches the local carbon market trading products, but also endows the resource emission reduction system with hematopoietic function, which is of great significance for creating a green and low-carbon life for the whole people.

It is understood that in January 2024, the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment approved and issued 166,000 tons of CQCER (voluntary emission reduction of the "Carbon Huitong" project) in the first cycle of the "Urban Public Transport Vehicle Travel Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Project" of Chongqing Public Transport Group.

To participate in this event, the general public must first register and log in to the "Carbon Benefit" platform. "Carbon Huitong" is a provincial-level voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction platform launched in Chongqing in 2021, and its functional design covers carbon compliance, carbon neutrality, carbon inclusion and other functions, and has built and connected 15 application scenarios such as Chongqing Kuaiban, Chongqing Human Resources and Social Security, Chongqing Public Transportation, and Didi Chuxing, and established sub-platforms in AutoNavi Map and China Telecom (Chongqing), attracting nearly 2 million users to register and participate.
