Recently, the French company Arkema said that it will invest 130 million euros in a new purification process at the Carlin acrylic monomer production site in France to reduce the plant's carbon dioxide emissions by 20%. By 2026, Arkema will implement new patented purification technologies to improve operational efficiency and improve the carbon footprint of its plants.
Richard Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Arkema Coating Solutions, said: "Following the introduction of bio-based acrylic monomers using a mass balance approach in 2022, Carlin's new project is another key step for Arkema to position itself as a leader in low-carbon acrylic materials and help our customers reduce emissions in their supply chains. "The Carlin plant produces acrylic monomers for high-performance materials used in high-performance coatings, adhesives, water treatment, and a variety of other applications.
Arkema said the project is part of its global roadmap for decarbonising capital expenditures, with part of the funding being provided by the French government under the France 2030 plan. The program supports the development and industrialization of renewable energy solutions.
