Recently, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission approved the project proposal of the Tongzhou branch of the Children's Hospital affiliated to the Capital Institute of Pediatrics (on behalf of the feasibility study report), which is a key project in Beijing, with a design of 800 beds. Among them, Chaoyang Hospital will evacuate all scientific research and teaching functions and some medical beds to Tongzhou Hospital, mainly to provide basic medical care and emergency first aid services for children in the core area and surrounding areas, and Tongzhou Hospital, as the main hospital area, mainly provides high-quality comprehensive medical services, incurable diseases, acute and critical treatment and other guarantee services for children in the sub-center of the city and the northeast of the city.

Founded in 1986 and located in Yabao Road, Chaoyang District, the Children's Hospital affiliated to the Capital Institute of Pediatrics is a tertiary first-class children's specialized hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and preventive health care. The hospital has 439 open beds and receives about 2.2 million outpatient and emergency visits annually.

The approved Tongzhou Campus project is located in Songzhuang Town, Tongzhou District, with a total construction area of 186,400 square meters, including 113,300 square meters of above-ground construction area and 73,100 square meters of underground construction area. The project is planned and constructed according to the 800-bed plan, mainly set up a medical comprehensive building, a teaching and scientific research building, an infection building, etc., and simultaneously implements outdoor projects such as roads and greening. The project is expected to be completed and put into use in 2026.

The project adheres to the center of children's health, and is carefully designed in terms of spatial layout, functional settings, and scientific research transformation. Coordinate the overall functional layout, and develop "one hospital and two sites" in dislocation. After the completion of the project, Chaoyang Hospital will evacuate all scientific research and teaching functions and some medical beds to Tongzhou Hospital, mainly to provide basic medical care and emergency first aid services for children in the core area and surrounding areas, and Tongzhou Hospital, as the main hospital area, mainly provides high-quality comprehensive medical services, incurable diseases, acute and critical treatment and other guarantee services for children in the sub-center and northeast of the city, and carries the functions of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics.

The new hospital will adhere to the patient-centered approach and optimize the patient experience. MDT (multidisciplinary consultation) modern medical treatment mode, Internet hospital, analysis and optimization of spatial flow and other methods are used to reduce the waiting time of patients and realize the nearby and real-time medical treatment of more children. Strengthen the separation of doctor-patient flow lines and the reasonable partitioning of pedestrian and vehicle flows to ensure the safety of patients. At the same time, combined with the characteristics of children with many fevers, an independent infection building was set up in the southwest corner of the hospital to avoid affecting other areas. The configuration of scientific research "hardware" will be effectively guaranteed to enhance the ability of scientific research and innovation. Coordinate the establishment of 100 research-oriented beds, set up scientific research rooms, experimental areas and research wards, and promote the organic combination of scientific research and clinical practice.

The new hospital also actively implements the concept of green development to help reduce carbon emissions. The project implements three-star green building standards, and achieves green energy saving and low-carbon emission reduction by improving the thermal performance of building maintenance structures, the proportion of green materials applied, the sound insulation performance of main functional rooms, and adopting external shading facilities and water-saving irrigation systems.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Tongzhou Campus of the First Children's Institute is a major project in Beijing to promote the rational distribution of medical and health resources, and its construction is of great significance. The construction of the project is an important measure to implement the requirements of Beijing's overall urban planning and relieve non-capital functions, which is conducive to promoting the rational distribution of high-quality pediatric medical resources, supplementing the shortcomings of pediatric medical resources in the sub-center of the city, and promoting the overall improvement of the level of pediatric diagnosis and treatment in the surrounding areas. In the future, Tongzhou Hospital will rely on the scientific research advantages of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics to build a three-in-one scientific research model of "from basic research, clinical research to scientific research transformation", which is conducive to improving the innovation ability of medical science and technology and promoting the coordinated development of medicine and industry.

The completion of the new hospital will also improve the diagnosis and treatment conditions of Chaoyang Hospital and achieve sustainable development. The project promotes the scientific research and teaching functions of Chaoyang Hospital and the evacuation of some medical beds to Tongzhou Hospital, which is conducive to promoting the optimization of Chaoyang Campus's functions, medical treatment flow and medical environment, improving the service guarantee capacity of children in the central urban area and surrounding areas, and reducing the pressure on traffic and urban governance in the surrounding areas.

At present, Beijing has initially formed a children's medical and health service system composed of children's specialized hospitals, pediatrics of general hospitals, and maternal and child health care institutions. The "Beijing Municipal Special Plan for Medical and Health Facilities (2020-2035)" proposes to build the Tongzhou branch of the Capital Children's Institute and the new campus of Beijing Children's Hospital in Songzhuang Town, Tongzhou and Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, respectively. The new campus of Beijing Children's Hospital is carrying out preliminary work for the project. In the future, the two municipal children's hospitals will further play a leading role in protecting children's health.
