Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the "Guidelines for the Construction of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Standard System in the Industrial Field", focusing on key carbon emission industries such as steel, building materials, non-ferrous metals, petrochemicals, and chemicals, as well as carbon reduction of key products, carbon control in the process, and coordinated carbon reduction, etc., to accelerate the formulation of urgently needed standards and revise existing standards in a timely manner.
The guidelines propose that by 2025, a standard system for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in the industrial sector will be initially established, more than 200 urgently needed standards for carbon peaking will be formulated, and standards in the fields of basic general, greenhouse gas accounting, and low-carbon technology and equipment will be formulated to provide technical support for the industrial sector to carry out carbon assessment and reduce carbon emissions. By 2030, a relatively complete standard system for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in the industrial sector will be formed, and the formulation of standards for coordinated carbon reduction, carbon emission management, and low-carbon evaluation will be accelerated, so as to achieve full coverage of standards in key industries and key areas, support the comprehensive peak of carbon emissions in the industrial sector, and gradually shift the focus of standardization work to the goal of carbon neutrality.
The standard system framework for carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the industrial field includes five categories of standards: basic general, accounting and verification, technology and equipment, monitoring, management and evaluation.
The guidelines encourage enterprises to formulate enterprise standards that are stricter than national and industry standards, and promote enterprises to accelerate the realization of low-carbon transformation.
