On December 5, IKEA China announced the official opening of its Beijing-Tianjin customer distribution center in Baodi District, Tianjin. When the customer distribution center is put into operation, it will help IKEA to serve consumers in the northern region with a better logistics and distribution network.

The Beijing-Tianjin Customer Distribution Centre is part of IKEA's commitment to sustainability. The Beijing-Tianjin Customer Distribution Center has been equipped with about 19,000 square meters of solar photovoltaic panels on the roof, which is estimated to generate about 4.417 million kWh of electricity per year.

At the operational level, the Beijing-Tianjin customer distribution center has also introduced green solutions covering different dimensions such as energy use, resource recovery, and building automation systems, all of which work together to minimize the impact on the environment, helping IKEA implement its sustainable development strategy and achieve the goal of becoming a climate-friendly company by 2030.

For example, the application of 100% lithium-ion battery forklifts will help reduce the environmental impact of exhaust gases generated during operations, rainwater collection tanks will recycle water and save an estimated 2,000 tons of water per year, building automation systems will improve energy efficiency by controlling the use of energy and water in distribution centers, and recycling systems will recycle cardboard and plastic waste into the supply chain. To reduce carbon emissions in the delivery process, the Beijing-Tianjin Customer Distribution Center has installed 12 charging points for electric delivery trucks.
