China's CO2 emissions expected to increase by 4% this year
On November 27, the Center for Energy and Clean Air Research (CREA), an independent research organization, released its annual assessment report, "China's Climate Transition: Outlook 2023". According to the report, China's clean energy power generation capacity, electric vehicle production and sales growth rate, steel and cement production and other indicators are on track to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, while total carbon dioxide emissions, total energy consumption, coal power and steel capacity investment and other indicators in 2022-2023 have not met expectations. China's carbon dioxide emissions are expected to increase by about 4% in 2023, the report said. The strong rebound in carbon emissions was driven by two unconventional factors: historically low rainfall that led to a sharp drop in hydropower generation, which boosted coal-fired power generation, and the post-pandemic reopening led to economic recovery, particularly in oil consumption.
HKEX has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2024
On 27 November, HKEX announced its commitment to carbon neutrality and net zero emissions. HKEX is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2024 and net-zero emissions by 2040. HKEX is committed to continuously reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris Agreement, and to neutralize their remaining emissions by 2040. HKEX also plans to submit its science-based emissions reduction targets to the Science Based Targets Initiative for verification in 2024. On top of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, HKEX is committed to reducing the carbon emissions of its operations through energy efficiency, the use of renewable electricity and low-carbon procurement.
For the first time, the Panzhihua Hydrogen Source Center has realized cross-regional hydrogen transportation
On November 27, it was reported that the Madian Mother and Child Hydrogen Refueling Station in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province supplied hydrogen to the Xichang Yuecheng Hydrogen Refueling Station, realizing a breakthrough in the cross-regional hydrogen transmission of Panzhihua Hydrogen Source Center, marking the first step for Panzhihua to establish a low-cost hydrogen source supply place and build a "middle circle" hydrogen energy transportation network. Madian Mother and Child Hydrogen Refueling Station is the first batch of hydrogen energy industry demonstration projects built in Panzhihua City, with a daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 1,000 kg, which can meet the daily hydrogen supply of 2 tankers and 50 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Chairman of Trina Solar: The energy storage industry is expected to double next year
At the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Shanghai Summit on November 27, Gao Jifan, chairman of Trina Solar (688599.SH), said that the integrated development of solar energy storage can solve the asymmetry of time and space of renewable energy, as well as solve the problem of intermittent mismatch of energy, which is much more important than the reduction of photovoltaic costs. He believes that with the current configuration of photovoltaic and energy storage, the energy storage market will grow rapidly, and next year's energy storage is expected to double on the basis of this year, and the integration of photovoltaic and storage is the future development trend.
BMW Brilliance signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on low-carbon aluminum
On November 27, it was reported that BMW Brilliance recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Shenhuo Group and Shuai Yichi Group for green electrolytic aluminum and recycled aluminum from 2024 to 2030. Compared with primary aluminum, green electrolytic aluminum and recycled aluminum have significant advantages in energy conservation and emission reduction. It will help meet the demand for high-quality low-carbon aluminum produced by car companies and reduce the carbon footprint of automobile production from the source.
