The first Boao Global Carbon Expo was held, launching an initiative towards a zero-carbon future

Recently, the first Boao Global Carbon Expo was held in the Boao Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone. With the theme of "Zero Carbon Future - Green and Sustainable Development", people from all walks of life, including business, academia, associations, think tanks and well-known entrepreneurs, will discuss the path of green sustainable development and high-quality development of green industries, so as to provide new green impetus for the realization of the global dual carbon goals.

At the meeting, Huang Junjie, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the Boao Global Carbon Expo, jointly released the "Boao Global Carbon Expo: Green and Sustainable Development Initiative Towards a Zero-carbon Future" (hereinafter referred to as the "Initiative") on behalf of the Organizing Committee and participating enterprises.

According to reports, the "Initiative" adheres to the common pursuit of sustainable development, and puts forward ten zero-carbon initiatives for ten key areas such as sustainable development, carbon emission reduction, clean energy, zero-carbon cities, zero-carbon transportation, zero-carbon trade, green supply chain, green buildings, zero-carbon scientific and technological innovation and green finance, and contributes wisdom and solutions to promote the construction of a beautiful China and build a clean and beautiful world.

First, sustainable development is a prerequisite for achieving a zero-carbon future, and we should take a series of measures, including promoting renewable energy, energy conservation and emission reduction, and circular economy, to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.

Second, reducing carbon emissions is a key step towards a zero-carbon future. We need to take practical and effective measures, including promoting clean energy, upgrading equipment, improving processes, and improving energy efficiency, to significantly reduce carbon emissions. In addition, through afforestation, ecological restoration and other measures, to increase carbon sink capacity and further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Third, the use of clean energy is an important way to achieve a zero-carbon future, and we should increase investment and development of clean energy, and actively promote the development and utilization of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, hydrogen energy and methanol. At the same time, we should improve the research and development and application level of clean energy technology, reduce the cost of clean energy, and accelerate the process of replacing fossil energy with clean energy.

Fourth, the construction of zero-carbon cities is an important means to achieve sustainable development, and a series of measures should be taken, including urban planning, building energy conservation, clean energy use, and the construction of zero-carbon industrial parks, to promote the sustainable development of cities. At the same time, strengthen the resource utilization of urban waste and promote the sustainable development of the construction industry.

Fifth, building a zero-carbon transportation system is the key to reducing carbon emissions from transportation, and a series of measures should be taken, including the promotion of new energy vehicles, the use of clean energy, and the construction of charging facilities, to promote the sustainable development of the transportation sector. At the same time, strengthen the research and development and application of energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies for transportation, improve transportation energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Sixth, promoting zero-carbon trade is an important way to achieve the green transformation of global trade, and a green trade system should be established and improved, encouraging the production and trade of low-carbon products, and restricting the production and export of high-carbon emission products. At the same time, we should strengthen international cooperation and exchanges to jointly promote the development of green trade.

Seventh, promoting the green supply chain is an important means to achieve the sustainable development of the supply chain, and the selection and management of suppliers should be strengthened, and environmentally friendly products and green production methods should be promoted to promote the sustainable development of the supply chain. At the same time, strengthen the recycling and treatment of products to achieve efficient use of resources and reduce environmental pollution.

Eighth, the promotion of green buildings is the key to achieve sustainable development in the field of construction, and the design of green buildings should be promoted, the use of energy-saving and environmentally friendly materials and green building design, and the improvement of building energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality. At the same time, strengthen the energy-saving renovation and green transformation of old buildings, and promote the sustainable development of the construction industry.

Ninth, zero-carbon scientific and technological innovation is an important support for achieving a zero-carbon future, promoting the research and application of cutting-edge zero-carbon scientific and technological innovation, exploring and researching cutting-edge renewable energy technologies such as high-efficiency and low-cost solar cell technology, new energy storage technology and smart grid technology, and promoting the construction of the energy Internet and the innovation of application models.

Tenth, the development of green finance and the promotion of carbon trading are important guarantees for achieving the sustainable development goals. Carbon trading converts carbon emission rights into commodities, realizes the trading of carbon emission rights and the optimal allocation of emission reduction costs, and promotes the development of a low-carbon economy. Strengthen the support and development of green finance, innovate green financial products and services, promote green and responsible investment concepts and management models, promote the development and expansion of green industries, and promote the realization of global low-carbon development and green energy transition.

Finally, Huang Junjie said that strengthening global cooperation is the key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and that working together to address climate change and environmental challenges can achieve the SDGs.
