On February 22, the batch construction of China's independent third-generation nuclear power Hualong No. 1 was reported again. The reporter learned from the China National Nuclear Corporation that Unit 3 of the second phase of the Zhangzhou nuclear power project controlled by China Nuclear Power Investment Holdings, a subsidiary of the China National Nuclear Corporation, poured the first tank of concrete (FCD) on the nuclear island, marking the prelude to the construction of the second phase of the Zhangzhou nuclear power project.

Hualong No. 1, the "national business card", is an important achievement of CNNC to accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement and the implementation of the national "double carbon" strategy. At present, Hualong No. 1 has become one of the most competitive third-generation nuclear power models in the world nuclear power market.
It is understood that each Hualong No. 1 nuclear power unit generates more than 10 billion kWh of electricity per year, which can meet the annual production and living electricity demand of 1 million people in moderately developed countries, and at the same time is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 3.12 million tons per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons, and equivalent to planting more than 70 million trees.
At present, the first batch of 4 units of Hualong No. 1 have all been completed and put into operation, and the batch construction is progressing smoothly. Among them, the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Project is the starting point of the batch construction of Hualong No. 1: Unit 1 is expected to be put into operation in 2024, and Unit 2 is undergoing preparations for cold tests such as the installation of reactor internals.
