On the morning of August 26, the 2023 World Clean Energy Equipment Conference, co-sponsored by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, opened in Deyang. Ding Zhongli, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, delivered a speech and announced the opening. Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Marcos Barroso, former President of the European Commission and former Prime Minister of Portugal, delivered speeches successively. Ding Zhongli congratulated the convening of the conference. He pointed out that energy is an important material basis for human economic and social development. At present, the global energy transition process is significantly accelerated, and the energy system and development model are gradually moving towards a new stage dominated by non-fossil energy. The CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core attaches great importance to energy security, and has put forward a new energy security strategy of "four revolutions and one cooperation" and a new goal of "energy power", pointing out the direction for China's high-quality energy development in the new era. China's clean energy has developed rapidly and has built the world's largest clean power generation system. Ding Zhongli pointed out that Sichuan is a major clean energy province in China and plays an important role in serving and ensuring the overall situation of national energy security. Not long ago, when General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Sichuan, he put forward clear requirements for scientific planning and construction of a new energy system, providing scientific guidance for Sichuan to do a good job in related work. The holding of this conference will further expand the advantages of Sichuan's clean energy and inject new and strong impetus into the development of Sichuan's clean energy. It is hoped that Sichuan will promote multi-energy complementarity, focus on improving the ability to guarantee clean energy supply, and make greater contributions to ensuring the security of national energy supply. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China's clean energy equipment industry represented by wind power and nuclear power has achieved leapfrog development and built a relatively complete clean energy equipment industry system. Sichuan is a major economic province in China, and Deyang is an important clean energy equipment manufacturing base in China, with unique resource endowments. In recent years, Sichuan has made great efforts to increase clean energy production, accelerate the construction of a diversified clean energy supply system, and vigorously build a Chengdu-Deyang high-end energy equipment cluster, which has achieved remarkable results. In the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will play a supporting and guiding role in policies, adhere to innovation-driven to improve the modernization level of the industrial chain, strengthen demand traction to improve the quality and level of equipment supply, deepen international cooperation to create a new pattern of high-level opening-up, and work with all parties to jointly promote the high-quality development of the global clean energy equipment industry and make greater contributions to jointly building a clean and beautiful world.

In his speech, Barroso said that energy is a topic of common concern around the world, and as climate change poses greater challenges to sustainable development, reducing carbon emissions has become particularly important. Over the years, China and the EU have engaged in active dialogue and cooperation in this regard, and have built a strong foundation for cooperation in the fields of climate and energy, signing a number of agreements, plans and joint statements, including cooperation in the development and deployment of clean energy technologies. I believe that addressing the crisis brought about by climate change should be a global issue that requires multilateral cooperation, especially in the current challenging and complex international situation, where the need for renewable energy and green technologies is more urgent, and the EU is also accelerating and expanding the clean energy transition. It is hoped that China, the EU and the international community will demonstrate wisdom in achieving the SDGs through effective cooperation. It is hoped that this conference will be used as a platform to attract all parties to actively develop the clean energy and equipment industry, contribute to global climate governance, and promote the realization of sustainable development goals.

At the opening ceremony, Shu Yinbiao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission, and Yu Peigen, chairman of Dongfang Electric Group, delivered keynote speeches respectively, and the China Machinery Industry Federation awarded Deyang "China Equipment Science and Technology City", and representatives of leading enterprises at home and abroad jointly signed the "Consensus on the Opening and Cooperation of the Global Clean Energy Equipment Industry".
