SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- On the morning of Nov. 16, local time, President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech entitled "Working Together to Meet Challenges and Write a New Chapter in Asia-Pacific Cooperation" to the APEC Business Leaders Summit held in San Francisco.

Xi Jinping pointed out that 30 years ago, in line with the trend of the times of peace and development, leaders of the Asia-Pacific region convened the first APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Meeting to promote Asia-Pacific development and economic globalization into the fast lane, and help the Asia-Pacific region become the center of world economic growth and the anchor of global development and stability. Over the past 30 years, we have upheld open regionalism, been open and inclusive, learned from each other's strengths, shared common strengths, focused on development, and pioneered the "APEC approach" that is independent, voluntary, consensual and progressive, and promoted the spirit of partnership of harmony while diversity, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and working together in harmony. The extraordinary history of Asia-Pacific cooperation has brought us many profound inspirations.

Xi Jinping stressed that the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, and where Asia-Pacific cooperation will go in the next 30 years has become a new question of the times that we are facing. We need to uphold the original aspiration of APEC and promote Asia-Pacific cooperation to start again.

We need to jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, adhere to the path of state-to-state exchanges based on dialogue rather than confrontation and partnership rather than alliance, and safeguard the prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific region. The Asia-Pacific region cannot and should not be reduced to a gladiatorial arena for geopolitical games, still less can it engage in a "new Cold War" and bloc confrontation. It is necessary to adhere to open regionalism, unswervingly promote the process of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, promote the economic linkage and integration of all countries, and build an open Asia-Pacific economy with win-win cooperation. It is necessary to promote digital, intelligent and green transformation and development, strengthen scientific and technological innovation and the transformation of achievements, promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, work together to improve global science and technology governance, and create an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for science and technology development.

Xi Jinping stressed that since the beginning of this year, China's economy has continued to rebound, high-quality development has been steadily promoted, China is still the largest engine of global growth, China has the institutional advantages of the socialist market economy, the demand advantage of the super-large-scale market, the supply advantage of a complete industrial system, the talent advantage of a large number of high-quality workers and entrepreneurs, and the economic development has strong endogenous power, resilience and potential.
