The State Pipeline Network Western Pipeline Company built the first "zero-carbon factory" in Xinjiang's pipeline transportation industry
Recently, the Urumqi operation area of the company's Urumqi Oil and Gas Transmission Branch obtained the two-star evaluation certificate of "zero-carbon factory" of China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd., a global authoritative certification body, marking the official construction of the first "zero-carbon factory" in the pipeline industry in Xinjiang.
Through on-site inspection, material review, personnel interviews and other forms, China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. conducted star rating from seven dimensions, including basic requirements, energy and resources, infrastructure, comprehensive management, carbon reduction technology and measures, products and carbon reduction performance, and believed that the Urumqi operation area has reached the near-zero carbon level and belongs to the "zero carbon factory" two stars. The "zero-carbon factory" will provide a reference experience for the western pipeline network to reduce carbon emissions and achieve green transformation.
The Urumqi operation area is located in the Chaiwobao area of Dabancheng District, Urumqi City, and its main function is to transport the upstream gas from the second and third lines of the West-East Gas Transmission Line to the downstream pipeline after filtration, separation and pressurization, with an annual designed gas transmission capacity of 60 billion cubic meters.
In 2022, the Urumqi operation area will fully launch the "Zero Carbon Plan". Using the abundant local green power and other resources, the company began to electrify the production and living equipment under its jurisdiction, replacing the original boiler with 2 electric boilers, and changing the gas stove to an electric stove, which can save 82,000 cubic meters of natural gas and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,054 tons per year. At the same time, all high-energy-consuming motors are replaced, and various processes are optimized to reduce pipeline loss, gas venting and power consumption.
On October 26, 2023, the natural gas recovery demonstration project in the operation area was successfully put into operation, which can save 478,000 cubic meters of natural gas per year, equivalent to reducing 6,200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. "This is the first time we have achieved natural gas recovery. This carbon reduction method can save enterprises 1.2 million yuan per year. Jia Chongkang, secretary of the party branch of the Urumqi operation area, said.
As the only all-electric drive station for the second and third lines of the West-East Gas Transmission Line in Xinjiang, the Urumqi operation area has made full use of the advantages of being located in multiple large-scale wind farms to actively adopt green energy, and the adoption of green electricity has reached more than 50% in 2023. At the same time, the operation area will also adopt a multi-energy complementary model, and actively undertake the old pipeline conversion hydrogen transmission project of the Western Pipeline Company, so as to truly realize the carbon neutrality and sustainable operation of the operation area.
