According to CCTV Finance, according to Russia Today, the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation, the world's first "carbon tariff", will be implemented from October 1. There is a transition period between now and 2025, with full implementation gradually between 2026 and 2034. Under the new rules, the EU will impose additional taxes on steel, aluminium, cement and fertilisers imported from abroad. EU importers are now required to report greenhouse gas emissions from the production of the goods in question. From 1 January 2026, importers will be required to purchase emission certificates, the price of which is based on the carbon price to be paid when producing these goods within the EU.

The EU has previously proposed a series of goals such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. According to EU Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, the new policy aims to encourage global manufacturers to switch to greener production methods and prevent manufacturers in the EU from profiting by relocating their production facilities to countries and regions with less stringent environmental regulations.
