Recently, the world's first renewable energy hydrogen emission reduction methodology was approved at the 119th meeting of the Executive Council of the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism (CDM EB), officially becoming the 124th large-scale methodology of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), filling the gap of the global renewable energy hydrogen emission reduction methodology.
The methodology was jointly developed by the Shanghai Environmental Exchange and the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance Research Institute. Since 2021, the project team has conducted extensive data research based on projects under construction and planning, and repeatedly demonstrated key elements such as project baselines and additionality based on the development trend of the global voluntary emission reduction market. In May 2022, the application was officially launched, and after multiple rounds of review by the CDM methodology team and executive council, the project team made several adjustments to the technical parameters, and the methodology was officially approved.
At present, global green hydrogen is in the early stage of development, high cost is an important problem at present, the adoption of this methodology, but also inject new impetus into the development of the global hydrogen energy industry, through the carbon pricing system, accelerate the development of the industry.
As the designated trading platform for the Shanghai carbon trading pilot and the construction and operation institution of the national carbon emission trading system, the Shanghai Environmental Exchange has been actively conducting business layout in the field of hydrogen energy since 2021, exploring the coordinated development of the carbon market and the hydrogen energy industry, and successively working with industry partners to promote the development of carbon emission reduction methodologies in various hydrogen energy application scenarios. In 2023, the world's first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle carbon emission reduction certification methodology will be implemented, and the world's first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle carbon emission reduction project will be launched to develop and realize the pre-sale of emission reduction.
In addition, the Shanghai Environmental Exchange is also actively exploring the research and development of hydrogen price index and the formulation of hydrogen energy standards. In the future, the Shanghai Environmental Exchange will continue to give full play to its platform advantages, strengthen cooperation with industry-related enterprises, further promote the coordinated development of hydrocarbons, make full use of the mechanisms of the carbon market, and promote the sustainable development of the hydrogen energy industry.
