Wind and solar power generation is uncontrollable and time-changeable, and hydrogen production through electrolysis of water to expand the application of electric energy is one of the important ways to solve the absorption of new energy. Jilin Province regards green hydrogen as an important engine to promote industrial transformation and upgrading and promote energy structure adjustment, implements the "Hydrogen Driving Jilin" action, and strives to build a "hydrogen valley in northern China".

 

In the construction site of the Da'an Wind and Hydrogen Synthetic Ammonia Integration Demonstration Project in Baicheng, Jilin, tower cranes are lined up, machines are roaring, and construction personnel are working intensively. According to the design of the whole industrial chain of "green hydrogen absorbs green electricity, green ammonia absorbs green hydrogen, and source, grid, load and storage integration", the project can produce 32,000 tons of green hydrogen and 180,000 tons of green ammonia per year after it is put into operation, reducing carbon emissions by about 650,000 tons per year and saving 230,000 tons of standard coal.

The project is the epitome of the "Hydrogen Jilin Initiative" initiative. Jilin Province regards green hydrogen as an important engine to promote industrial transformation and upgrading and promote energy structure adjustment, with the goal of building a "hydrogen valley in northern China", and plans to reach a scale of 30 billion yuan in hydrogen energy industry by 2030 and 100 billion yuan in 2035, with hydrogen energy as the main way to realize the large-scale development and utilization of new energy in the province.

Breakthrough from "0" to "1"

Every morning and evening commuting peak, six hydrogen buses marked "China-Korea (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone" will be full of employees to and from Changchun city and the demonstration park, becoming a touch of scenery in the green transportation transformation of Beiguo Spring City. Tao Dayong, an employee of the park, said with emotion: "The hydrogen energy bus is quiet and comfortable, full of power, and the station is right at my doorstep, which provides us with a lot of convenience." ”

On April 3 this year, Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jidian Co., Ltd.) Changchun hydrogen energy transportation demonstration line was successfully put into operation, becoming the first "zero carbon emission" green transportation line in Changchun, which means that the whole industrial chain of hydrogen energy "production, storage and use" in Jilin Province has achieved a breakthrough from "0" to "1".

Mercedes-Benz's commuter bus on this hydrogen energy transportation demonstration line uses all the "fuel" from the only hydrogen source mother station in Changchun City-China-Korea Demonstration Zone Hydrogen Production and Hydrogenation Integration Station. The station can produce up to 450 kilograms of hydrogen per day, where hydrogen fuel is split from water, achieving "zero carbon emissions".

"A hydrogen fuel cell bus can be filled with hydrogen in less than 15 minutes, which is faster than the fast charge of pure electric vehicles, and can carry 45 passengers for 600 kilometers after being fully charged." The relevant person in charge of Jidian Co., Ltd. introduced that the opening and operation of the hydrogen energy transportation demonstration line will provide a large amount of empirical data for the hydrogenation integration station, and lay a solid foundation for the company's subsequent promotion of the "integrated station" development model to the province.

According to the "Hydrogen Jilin Initiative" action plan, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Jilin Province will promote the implementation of 57 related projects. These include the construction of nearly 30 hydrogen refueling stations or integrated energy stations, the promotion of 500 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and the launch of 30 hydrogen heavy trucks.

Make use of wind and solar resources to seek green hydrogen transformation

Based on abundant scenery resources, Jilin Province fully launched the "Three Gorges on Land" project in 2021. According to the "Jilin Province Energy Sector Before 2030 Carbon Peak Implementation Plan" released in August this year, by 2030, the installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic power generation in the province will reach 45 million kilowatts and 15 million kilowatts respectively, forming the core component of the national "Songliao Clean Energy Base".

Wind and solar power generation is uncontrollable and time-changeable, which largely restricts the healthy and sustainable development of the new energy industry. Hydrogen production through electrolysis of water and expansion of electric energy applications is one of the important ways to solve the absorption of new energy. At present, Jilin Province is working intensively to build three 10-million-kilowatt-level new energy bases of "absorption base, delivery base and hydrogen production base", and has issued the "Medium and Long-term Development Plan of "Hydrogen Motion Jilin" (2021-2035)", and formulated a number of policies and measures to support the development of the hydrogen energy industry.

Relying on the advantages of wind and solar resources and policy support of Jilin Province, National Hydrogen Technology settled the product line of hydrogen production from electrolyzed water in Changchun, and established Changchun Green Kinetic Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. at the end of 2021. Zhang Weijia, marketing director of Changchun Green Motion Northeast Region, told reporters that Changchun Green Motion's main business is to research and promote PEM electrolyzed water hydrogen production technology, etc., the company adheres to independent research and development, carries out key materials and "stuck neck" technology research in the field of hydrogen energy, and strives to overcome the problem of relying on imports of raw materials and high costs, and help the high-quality development of hydrogen energy industry.

Not long ago, Jilin Province held a working conference on in-depth promotion of the "hydrogen moving Jilin" action, and clearly proposed to accelerate the implementation of "six major projects" such as large-scale hydrogen production from wind and solar consumption, large-scale hydrogen use in the industrial field, multi-application ecological construction, efficient and convenient hydrogen energy storage and transportation, equipment manufacturing industry development, and hydrogen energy technology system innovation, and promote the development of the whole chain of "green power + green hydrogen + green ammonia + green alcohol".

Actively expand green hydrogen application scenarios

The Daan Wind and Solar Green Hydrogen Synthetic Ammonia Integration Demonstration Project of Jidian Co., Ltd. is the "first shot" of the "Hydrogen Motion Jilin" action. With a total investment of 595579 million yuan, the project was launched in October last year, and will build hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and 180,000 tons of ammonia synthesis plants while building wind power, photovoltaic and energy storage projects.

"Synthetic ammonia is a raw material used by many chemical enterprises, and the project is built in the West Jilin Hydrogen Production Chemical Industrial Park, and the synthetic ammonia produced can be directly supplied to surrounding chemical enterprises." Cai Yanfu, secretary of the party committee and chairman of Jidian Co., Ltd., said.

The lack of rich application scenarios is one of the problems facing the development of China's hydrogen energy industry. However, Jilin Province, which has pillar industries such as automobiles and chemicals, has a strong overall industrial foundation and has outstanding advantages in promoting the integration and development of hydrogen energy industry and other industries, providing more application scenarios for hydrogen energy.

Cai Yanfu told reporters that Jidian has gradually explored the industrial concept and industrial chain scheme of "hydrogen-based green energy" that "absorbs green electricity with green hydrogen and carries green hydrogen with hydrogen-based green energy". On the one hand, it can effectively overcome the problem of hydrogen energy storage and transportation, broaden the application scenarios of hydrogen energy, and rapidly expand the scale of industrial development; on the other hand, it can fully inherit the green attributes of hydrogen energy, making it an important carrier for green and low-carbon transformation in the fields of chemical industry, electric power, navigation, aviation and other fields.
