"A gathering of heroes and a convergence of ideas. Li Zhongzheng, a student at Beijing Forestry University, wrote in the WeChat circle of friends a few days ago. What he was talking about was the 19th Capital University Environmental Culture Season Environmental Salon held at Tsinghua University on December 3.

The event was hosted by the Beijing Ecological and Environmental Protection Publicity Center, the Beijing Student Federation, and the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, and undertaken by the Tsinghua University Student Green Association. Nearly 100 college students from 40 environmental protection clubs from 25 universities in Beijing gathered together to share and discuss the theme of "sharing low-carbon campuses and building a modern society where man and nature coexist in harmony".

Sharing: The activities of environmental protection clubs in colleges and universities are infinitely creative

The construction of low-carbon campuses is inseparable from the in-depth participation of young people in colleges and universities. Nurturing future young leaders with green leadership also needs to start from the student days. In the capital universities, the environmental protection club uses creative club activities to spread the concept of environmental protection and guide the practice of environmental protection. And this salon has undoubtedly become a big stage for inter-school sharing.

Some are closely related to major urban activities. For example, the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) Youth Volunteer Association combined the opportunity of the Beijing Winter Olympics to take a green environmental protection lesson covering the whole capital through a series of volunteer service measures, improve the awareness of ecological environmental protection and green construction, and build a low-carbon and environmentally friendly green capital. The project is centered on the Wild Duck Lake Green Education Practice Base, integrating the Winter Olympics, ecological and environmental protection, education and publicity, green tree planting, bird protection, wetland protection, flower and grass conservation, and garbage classification, and carries out a variety of activities on and off campus, covering Beijing universities, social organizations and more people.

Some are closely integrated with professional training. For example, the Beijing University of Chemical Technology Environmental Protection Volunteer Association (hereinafter referred to as the Beihua Environmental Protection Association) relies on the school's Liuhu Environmental Protection Public Welfare Practice Base to organize and lead the members of the Liuhu Guardian Team to carry out surveys and surveys in the lake area, water operations and other practices. Combined with the characteristics of the Liuhu project, the Beihua Environmental Protection Association assisted professional teachers to set up the "Liuhu Environmental Ecological Restoration Technology Explanation and Practice Course", aiming to cultivate students' hands-on engineering ability and continuously improve the quality of education in the base.

Some focus on the details of low-carbon on campus. For example, the Tsinghua University Student Green Association paid attention to the problem of meal paper in a fast food canteen of the school, conducted a questionnaire survey on the necessity of using plate paper, and compared the carbon emissions of using plate paper and not using plate paper through literature research. The association's survey found that although the non-use of plate paper will make the plate have to be washed every time it is used, and increase water consumption, it will overall reduce its carbon footprint.

In addition, there are environmental protection activities from the small things of campus life, such as recycling in the graduation season and turning off the lights in the teaching building, as well as environmental protection actions such as organizing green teaching, community publicity, and building a green education practice base in Yanqing Wild Duck Lake, as well as exchange activities based on interdisciplinary and international perspectives such as "Tsinghua Youth Climate Week"... The environmental protection clubs of colleges and universities in the capital also showed their abilities, showing the understanding and enthusiasm of young students for ecological and environmental protection.

Discussion: What are the tips for enhancing the influence of environmental protection community activities?

What are the pain points of building a low-carbon campus? How to carry out more innovative and influential low-carbon activities? How to go out of the campus and bring the low-carbon concept to the society? At the salon site, the three discussion topics were closely related to the current situation and confusion of contemporary college students participating in green and low-carbon development, so that the participants of the salon had feelings and something to say.

The students brainstormed and shared the success or failure of their clubs, and summed up many tips for organizing activities.

"The activity must be operable, balancing fun and seriousness at the same time, but the threshold for participation should not be too high. ”

"It is better to promote the event in a place with a large number of people on campus, such as the entrance of the cafeteria. ”

"Many students like small things, and our event prizes can be considered for falling leaves, bookmarks, etc. In addition, many people don't like to show their heads, and we have very few people who record promotional videos, but we set up an anonymous environmental protection white wall, and everyone is willing to participate. ”

"It's better if the event is sustainable, and one or two short-term events are not as impactful as long-term ones. ”

......

These experiences may not be universal, but they can always be inspiring to our partners.

It is understood that the environmental culture season of the capital's colleges and universities has been held for many years. Among them, the environmental protection salon is based on the university campus and faces the society, and builds a platform for young students to participate in the construction of ecological civilization.

The salon also gave university students the opportunity to listen to expert presentations. Now, Zhu Xunuo, vice president of the Green Finger Environmentalists Association of Beijing Forestry University, is planning to invite experts who spoke at the salon, such as Lan Hong, a professor at the School of Environment at the Chinese People's University, to give lectures. "Teacher Lan spoke very well and opened my mind. Carbon emissions are everywhere and affect all aspects of life, and every little thing we do to save energy is a contribution to achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Zhu promised to use "benefited a lot" to describe the experience of this environmental protection salon. "We can see further goals, more advanced ideas, and find the direction of future improvement through communication, which is very rewarding for me personally and for the association. ”
