The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on October 19 that it had approved a US$160 million equivalent loan to support a low-carbon and inclusive rural development project in Shanxi Province, People's Republic of China. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas and other air pollutant emissions, improve the efficiency of water management and treatment to address water scarcity, and promote nature-based wetland restoration to enhance carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. The project will provide multiple supports, including the promotion of the application of high-efficiency heat pumps and biomass boilers in rural clean heating systems, the renovation of rural houses, the adoption of smart water management solutions, the development of smart management platforms for wetlands and carbon assets, and the construction of climate-resilient low-carbon facilities for the elderly.
