On the fourth day of the Expo, the phrase "Sorry, my business card has been sent" can often be heard at the booths of enterprises related to new materials: "Sorry, my business card has been sent." ”

On the morning of November 8, two live broadcasts were being held at Covestro's booth at the same time, and there was an endless stream of customers who came to consult. Located in the C position of the booth is the latest SUV of the Chinese electric vehicle brand Gaohe Automobile, surrounded by visitors. The car, called HiPhi Y, made its debut at the CIIE and features sustainable material solutions from Covestro for its interior and exterior components.

Covestro is a German materials manufacturer specializing in the production of polymer materials, mainly in the automotive and transportation, construction, chemical and other industries.

Zhou Mingkang, Circular Economy Manager of Covestro Asia Pacific, showed the recyclable polycarbonate lamp material to Jiemian News reporters. "In some industries, polycarbonate materials from Covestro have already been reused up to 90 percent. Zhou Mingkang said.

Covestro has been exhibiting at the CIIE for the third consecutive year. At this year's booth, it also showcased a foam material for chairs made from bio-based instead of traditional petroleum-based, namely sponges.

"The use of vegetable oil or even gutter oil instead of petrochemicals promotes a circular economy and significantly reduces carbon emissions. Zhou Mingkang said.

Zhou Mingkang said that China's attention to "green and low-carbon", "energy conservation and environmental protection" is increasing year by year, and foreign requirements for this aspect are becoming more and more stringent, and new relevant laws are constantly introduced.

New materials with excellent performance and function are an important support for national strategic emerging industries, covering aerospace, electronic information, energy conservation and environmental protection, biomedicine and other industries.

China's industry is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading, and under the goal of "carbon neutrality", the rapid development of domestic photovoltaic, wind power, new energy vehicles and other industries will promote China's demand for new materials will show a continuous growth trend. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has predicted that the total output value of China's new materials industry will reach 10 trillion yuan in 2025.

AGC from Japan is a glass manufacturer and a materials company in the fields of electronics, chemicals, and technical ceramics.

At this year's CIIE, AGC exhibited a protective film for solar module panels. According to She Xing, manager of the strategic planning department of AGC, this product can be simply understood as a film made of fluororesin, which has a long life of more than 20 years and a light transmittance of more than 92%.

She Xing said that the solar panel protective film is only one of the uses of this product, and the wider use is to replace concrete for building exterior walls, which is not only lighter, but also can save indoor electricity during the day due to ultra-high light transmittance, and play a role in carbon neutrality and carbon emission reduction.

"Perhaps for the sake of transformation, this material with its eco-friendly properties is very popular this year, and the number of customers who come to consult is increasing. She Xing said.

On November 5, the "first order on the first day" of the 6th CIIE was officially born, with an order worth 300 million US dollars and the transaction product was silicone. This new material has excellent temperature resistance, weather resistance, electrical insulation and other properties, and is widely used in aerospace, electronic and electrical, chemical and other fields.

The supplier and purchaser of the transaction is Dow, a material science company in the United States, and Zhenkun Xing, a procurement service platform for industrial supplies in China, and the trading products are planned to be sold in the Chinese market, and the application fields involve electronics, transportation, new energy construction, etc.

Zhu Chengyi, President of Dow Greater China, said in an exclusive interview with Jiemian News during the CIIE that the company's business in China has ushered in new development opportunities in the past decade.

"China has huge market potential, has the world's largest consumer base, and is in a critical period of transformation of consumption upgrading, urbanization, sustainable development and new infrastructure, and the demand for high value-added material science solutions is rising. Zhu Chengyi said.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Dow has participated in the CIIE, focusing on five major areas: circular economy, new energy, consumption upgrading, green building and low-carbon transformation, bringing nearly 50 material science solutions, including 11 global, Asia-Pacific or China premieres.

According to Zhu Chengyi, Dow has held 10 signing ceremonies for strategic cooperation memorandums during the Expo, mainly providing relevant customers and partners with a variety of material science solutions, such as polyurethane, adhesives, immersion liquid cooling solutions and other products and technologies.

In 1979, the American-based multi-faceted chemical company officially entered the Chinese market. At present, China has become Dow's second largest market in the world.

"China is one of the most important markets for Dow's globalization strategy. Over the past 20 years, Dow has built an average of one new production line every 18 months in China. Zhu Chengyi said.

Currently, Dow has established one of its largest manufacturing facilities in the Asia-Pacific region in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, producing products including upstream and downstream integrated silicones, polyurethanes and alcohol ethers. In June this year, the Zhangjiagang base launched an expansion project for silicone downstream products, which is the 19th project of the production base.

"The Chinese market has huge scale and potential. In the future, Dow will continue to enrich its product supply capacity in China, enhance the resilience of its supply chain, and serve fast-growing products such as new energy vehicles, batteries, photovoltaics, and consumer electronics. Zhu Chengyi said.
