The 6th China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Expo) recently opened in Shanghai. At the booth with the theme of "Life Lab for a Better Life", P&G held the "P&G China Sustainability Process Communication Meeting" to announce the progress of its "Mission 2030" sustainability goals in China.
Steady progress towards the Mission 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
Procter & Gamble has unveiled its sustainability progress at the CIIE for the fourth consecutive year, making steady progress in key areas such as climate, waste, and water. This year marks the third year of the "Mission 2030" goal, and Youjie Xu, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Communications & PR of P&G Greater China, shared its latest sustainability progress with the public.
In response to climate change, P&G has reduced its global Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 57% year-on-year from the baseline. At the same time, P&G China's factories have increased from three last year to seven to use 100% green electricity.
P&G is also comprehensively promoting transportation solutions to reduce the carbon emission intensity of finished product transportation, and has taken a firm step towards carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030, and in terms of waste, P&G has more than 79% of global recyclable and reusable product packaging, and all factories have achieved "zero production waste to landstock". Last year, more than 60% of the packages sent out by P&G did not need to be repackaged, and in terms of water resources, P&G's factories increased the water utilization rate per unit of output by an average of 27%, and at the same time, they are also actively open source to promote the reuse of recycled water, and last year P&G factories reused more than 3.3 billion liters of recycled water.
Breakthrough innovation to deliver sustainable products
Based on consumer research, P&G offers consumers a range of eco-friendly innovations. Zhou Wandi, R&D Director of P&G R&D Department, shared relevant breakthroughs at the communication meeting.
Head & Shoulders' new "Jane" series bottle body is reduced by 35% plastic, and the soft material can be curled, helping consumers to smoothly "empty bottles", and all packaging can be recycled, and Bilang three-cavity laundry pod packaging is 50% Recycled plastic gives waste a second life, while the lid is made with a one-piece textured engraved label that greatly reduces the use of plastic, Pantene's essential oil capsules are partially recycled instead of traditional packaging, and the Gillette Aurora Knife and Braun Series 9 Peak Edition Razor have been sustainably upgraded to improve the durability of the products themselves.
Continue to upgrade and create an innovative and collaborative green supply chain
The supply chain connects production and consumers and is a key part of reducing our environmental footprint.
On the factory side, P&G has achieved supply chain coordination and efficient cooperation by increasing infrastructure upgrades, increasing intelligent transformation, and increasing continuous investment in environmentally friendly new technology assets, effectively improving the low-carbon operation level of the factory.
On the transportation side, P&G has expanded and upgraded its national logistics network, and the improvement of fulfillment capacity has reduced the carbon emission intensity in the fulfillment process. In addition, Procter & Gamble has also actively introduced new energy heavy trucks into East China and South China, and used low-carbon water and land transportation instead of air transportation, effectively reducing the carbon emission intensity of finished product transportation.
