According to a report by the Washington Post on the 28th, a commercial airliner that does not use any fossil fuels and uses fat and sugar as fuel flies across the Atlantic Ocean for the first time.

According to the report, the British Virgin Atlantic passenger plane departed from London on the 28th and landed at New York's JFK International Airport in the afternoon of the same day. Unlike conventional flights, the airliner uses Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which is made from waste fat and sugar and emits 70% less carbon than fossil fuels. Currently, production of this fuel accounts for only 0.1% of the total aviation fuel consumption of the entire market, but experts expect that SAF will play an important role in the aviation industry's transition to "zero carbon emissions" in the future.

Due to the high cost and low production, this "100% SAF" airliner is currently just a "gimmick" and cannot be promoted. In addition, SAF has a wide range of raw materials, including corn, fat, municipal waste, etc., and although it can reduce carbon emissions by half on average compared with traditional fuels, SAF alone cannot achieve true "zero carbon emissions" unless breakthroughs are made in technologies such as batteries and liquid hydrogen.
