Shanghai Lingang will build the world's first "methanol marine fuel trading platform"
Recently, the Administrative Committee of the Lingang New Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Lingang New Area) signed a cooperation agreement with the Green Marine Group. Green Shipping Group will build the world's first marine methanol fuel trading platform in the Lingang New Area, and set up the first green methanol training and certification organization in China.
The construction of an international shipping supply service system, the enhancement of high-end shipping service functions, and the construction of a high-energy global shipping hub are important institutional innovation tasks specified in the overall plan of the State Council for the Lingang Special Area. The construction of the "Methanol Marine Fuel Trading Platform" will provide effective tools for upstream and downstream enterprises in the green shipping industry chain to manage forward price risks and promote the physical trading of green methanol, help the new area better allocate green fuel resources in the international and domestic markets, and build a world-leading green shipping service ecology. At the same time, the establishment of the Green Methanol Training and Certification Center will provide functional support for Shanghai to carry out methanol "ship-to-ship" bunkering for international voyages, and help Shanghai speed up the completion of high-end shipping service shortcomings.
It is reported that as part of the decarbonization of shipping, green methanol, ammonia and other new fuel ships have been put into operation, and at least 800,000 crew members worldwide will need to be "retrained" to upgrade their skills to meet the needs of new energy ship operations, with a market size of more than $1 billion, not including shore-based staff.
It is understood that the green shipping group focuses on the operation and management of methanol ships, green methanol certification training, is one of the main service agencies for Maersk to carry out green methanol "ship-to-ship" bunkering, the signing is the first time that the green shipping group in China layout, the layout of green new energy bunkering services in Shanghai Port is of great significance.
On March 1 this year, the Management Committee of Lingang New Area, China COSCO Shipping Group, State Power Investment Group, SIPG Group, China Classification Society, and Global Methanol Industry Association jointly initiated the establishment of the Lingang New Area Green Shipping Industry Alliance. The alliance covers 20 relevant units and institutions, including shipping and port enterprises, green new energy production and preparation enterprises, green fuel filling service enterprises, carbon footprint monitoring and carbon trading institutions, and industrial funds.
As an open cooperation platform, the alliance will promote the green and low-carbon transformation of the international shipping industry, exchanges and cooperation between the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, the formulation of green new energy standards and technology research and development, and contribute to the improvement of the green shipping industry chain ecology of Shanghai Port.
