According to the website of the National Bureau of Statistics, on February 29, the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2023 National Economic and Social Development Statistical Bulletin.
The total supply of state-owned construction land in the country was 749,000 hectares, down 2.1% from the previous year. Among them, 175,000 hectares of industrial, mining and storage land, down by 11.9 percent, real estate land was 84,000 hectares, down by 23.3 percent, and infrastructure land was 490,000 hectares, up by 7.2 percent.
The total annual water resources are 2,478 billion cubic meters. The total water consumption was 590.7 billion cubic meters, down 1.5% from the previous year. Among them, domestic water use increased by 0.5%, industrial water use increased by 0.2%, agricultural water use decreased by 2.9%, and artificial ecological environment water replenishment increased by 3.9%. The water consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP was 50 cubic meters, a decrease of 6.4%. The water consumption per 10,000 yuan of industrial added value was 26 cubic meters, down by 3.9%. The per capita water consumption was 419 cubic meters, a decrease of 1.4%.
The afforestation area was 4 million hectares, of which 1.33 million hectares were planted, accounting for 33.4% of the total afforestation area. The area of grass planting and improvement was 4.38 million hectares. As of the end of the year, there were 5 national parks. The new area of soil erosion control was 63,000 square kilometers throughout the year.
According to preliminary calculations, the total annual energy consumption was 5.72 billion tons of standard coal, an increase of 5.7% over the previous year. Coal consumption increased by 5.6 percent, crude oil consumption by 9.1 percent, natural gas consumption by 7.2 percent, and electricity consumption by 6.7 percent. Coal consumption accounted for 55.3 percent of total energy consumption, down 0.7 percentage points from the previous year, while clean energy consumption such as natural gas, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power accounted for 26.4 percent of total energy consumption, up 0.4 percentage points. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit of calcium carbide of key energy-consuming industrial enterprises decreased by 0.8%, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of synthetic ammonia increased by 0.9%, the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 1.6%, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of electrolytic aluminum decreased by 0.1%, and the standard coal consumption per kilowatt-hour of thermal power generation decreased by 0.2%. According to preliminary estimates, after deducting raw material energy consumption and non-fossil energy consumption, the energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP decreased by 0.5% compared with the previous year. The trading volume of carbon emission allowances in the national carbon emission trading market was 212 million tons, with a turnover of 14.44 billion yuan.

In the whole year, 85.0% of the coastal waters met the national water quality standards for Class I and Class II, 4.5% for Class III, and 10.5% for Class IV and inferior seawater.
In the 339 cities monitored at and above the prefecture level, the annual average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 30 micrograms per cubic meter, an increase of 3.4% over the previous year.
Among the 326 cities that carried out daytime monitoring of the sound environment in urban areas, 5.8% of the cities had good sound environment quality throughout the year, 69.3% of the cities had good sound environment quality, 23.9% were average, and 0.9% were poor.
The average annual temperature is 10.71°C, an increase of 0.21°C over the previous year. A total of 6 typhoons made landfall.
The area of crops affected in the whole year was 10.54 million hectares, of which 980,000 hectares were lost. The direct economic loss caused by floods and geological disasters was 245.1 billion yuan, the direct economic loss caused by drought disasters was 20.6 billion yuan, the direct economic losses caused by low temperature freezing and snow disasters were 4.9 billion yuan, and the direct economic losses caused by marine disasters were 2.5 billion yuan. A total of 11 earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or higher occurred, causing direct economic losses of 15.3 billion yuan. A total of 328 forest fires occurred, affecting about 4,000 hectares of forest.
A total of 21,242 people died in various production safety accidents throughout the year, a decrease of 4.7% over the previous year. There were 100,000 people employed in industrial, mining, commercial and trade enterprises, and 1.244 people died in production safety accidents, an increase of 4.2 percent over the previous year, and 0.094 people died in coal mines per million tons, an increase of 23.7 percent. The number of deaths per 10,000 vehicles in road traffic accidents was 1.38, a decrease of 5.5%.
