2023 is a milestone year in the history of China's industrial development, and the country has set off an upsurge of promoting new industrialization. The data shows that China's industrial economy is generally showing a trend of rebound, the information and communication industry has accelerated its development, and high-quality development has been solidly promoted.

"In 2023, we will solidly promote green and low-carbon transformation, gradually expand green emerging industries, further improve the comprehensive utilization efficiency of industrial resources, and the annual utilization of bulk industrial solid waste will exceed 2.2 billion tons. Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office today.

Looking back on 2023, how will China's industrial and information development lay out a green background? How will new energy vehicles flourish in the breakthrough progress of the automobile industry? Looking forward to 2024, how to actively cultivate new momentum and promote the green and low-carbon transformation of traditional industries?

Positive results have been achieved in the green and low-carbon transformation of industry

Green and low-carbon is the background color of new industrial production. At present, the pace of green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading of China's industries is accelerating, the backward production capacity in steel, electrolytic aluminum, petrochemical industry, building materials and other industries has been further withdrawn, and the 390 million tons of crude steel production capacity of 78 iron and steel enterprises have completed the whole process of ultra-low emission transformation, and the emission intensity of major pollutants and carbon dioxide in key industries has continued to decline. By the end of 2023, a total of 5,095 green factories have been established at the national level, accounting for more than 17% of the total output value of the manufacturing industry.

"Our 16 MW offshore wind turbine, the world's largest single capacity, has been successfully connected to the grid for power generation, the output of the main links of the photovoltaic industry chain has remained the first in the world for many years, the green and intelligent development of coastal inland vessels is accelerating, the first 10,000-ton green hydrogen industrialization demonstration project has been completed and put into operation, and the total output value of the annual environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry is expected to exceed 970 billion yuan. Tao Qing, spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and director of the Operation Monitoring and Coordination Bureau, gave an example.

In addition, in terms of efficient utilization of energy resources, the energy efficiency level of China's key energy-using industries has continued to improve, and the proportion of production capacity of ethylene and other industries that have reached the energy efficiency benchmark level has exceeded 30%. The annual reuse rate of industrial water above designated size is expected to exceed 93%. The energy efficiency of information infrastructure has also been continuously optimized, and by the end of 2023, a total of 196 green data centers have been cultivated.

China's 5G network is also accelerating its development towards intensive, efficient, green and low-carbon. For example, China is making full use of existing site resources, public resources and social tower resources to build 5G base stations, and actively promote the two-way sharing of communication tower resources and social tower resources.

"At present, more than 90% of base stations have been co-built and shared, and the energy consumption of 5G base stations has continued to decline, and the energy consumption of a single site of 5G base stations has been reduced by more than 20% compared with the initial stage of commercialization. Zhao Zhiguo, spokesman and chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said.

The data of 2023 shows that China's comprehensive utilization system of industrial resources has been further improved. 239 enterprises for the comprehensive utilization of renewable resources such as scrap steel, waste paper, and waste power batteries for new energy vehicles were selected throughout the year, and the comprehensive utilization of waste power batteries for new energy vehicles was 225,000 tons, which basically realized the collection of all receivables. The home appliance industry has achieved a recycling rate of more than 80% for refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and other products through easy recycling and detachable design.

In the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will continue to promote the implementation of the "14th Five-Year Plan" for industrial green development, mainly focusing on actively and steadily promoting industrial carbon reduction, promoting the carbon peak of industry and key industries, focusing on building a green manufacturing and service system, vigorously improving industrial energy efficiency and water efficiency, and comprehensively promoting the efficient use of resources.

Breakthroughs have been made in the development of the automobile industry

The automobile industry is an important pillar industry in China, the development of the automobile industry last year was full of bright spots, the production and sales exceeded 30 million for the first time, maintaining the world's first level for 15 consecutive years, and the added value of the automobile manufacturing industry above designated size increased by 13% year-on-year, making an important contribution to the steady growth of China's economy and handing in a brilliant answer.

Among them, new energy vehicles continue to lead the world. According to the data, in 2023, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China will be 9.587 million and 9.495 million respectively, a year-on-year increase of 35.8% and 37.9%, respectively, and new car sales will reach 31.6% of the total sales of new cars.

At the same time, foreign trade exports have further reached a new level. Vehicle exports last year totaled 4.91 million units, up 57.9% y/y, and are expected to rank first in the world for the first time. Among them, exports of new energy vehicles totaled 1.203 million units, a year-on-year increase of 77.6%, providing global consumers with diversified consumption choices.

In addition to the dazzling production and sales data, the scientific and technological research and development and technological progress of China's new energy vehicles are also obvious to all. For example, the performance of automotive-grade high-computing power chips has been greatly improved, and explosive products integrating various advanced technologies have been frequently released, which have shined at major auto shows. At the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, a semi-solid-state battery with a single energy density of 360 watt-hours per kilogram was exhibited to the public, and it has been installed and applied.

"While fully affirming the development achievements, we should also be soberly aware that there are still some places that need to be further coordinated in the development process of the automobile industry, for example, in the development of intelligent networked vehicles, the vehicle-road coordination is not enough, and there are some traditional ideas in the past, that is, we hope to build the car end into an all-round, and all problems are hoped to be solved through the car end. We propose the idea of implementing the coordinated development of vehicle-road-cloud, which is to solve the problems that should be solved by the vehicle, the problems that should be solved by the road, and the problems that should be solved by the cloud. Xin Guobin said.

In this regard, Xin Guobin said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized industry institutions, research institutions, and industry associations to carry out research at the beginning of this year, and further analyzed the development environment, constraints, and some favorable factors for the development of the automobile industry. "From the current point of view, the research results given by the industry association are still relatively optimistic. They believe that in 2024, the production and sales of China's automobile industry can achieve stable growth, and new energy vehicles will continue to maintain a good development trend. Overall, I think this judgment is reliable. Xin Guobin said.

In the next step, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will work with relevant departments to further strengthen macro guidance, strengthen industry management, and promote the high-quality development of the automobile industry. It includes the implementation of preferential policies such as tax reduction and exemption for the purchase of small vehicles, supporting enterprises to carry out joint innovation, organizing and carrying out the access of intelligent networked vehicles and the application pilot of "vehicle-road-cloud integration", and further strengthening the overall layout of industrial development.
