Chinanews.com, Dubai, December 3 -- The side event of "China's Policies and Actions on Climate Change" at the China Corner of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) was held in Dubai on November 30. Su Yalatu, director of the Inner Mongolia Ordos Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, said at the meeting that on the new journey, Ordos will continue to uphold the green development concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", actively participate in local cooperation on global environmental governance issues such as climate change, and make Ordos contributions to promoting global sustainable development.
It is reported that the side event was hosted by the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Beijing Representative Office of the Natural Resources Defense Council (USA), and the Beijing Representative Office of Environmental Defense Fund, and co-organized by the Sino-US Joint Research Center for Environmental Policy.
According to Suyalatu, Ordos is an important energy and strategic resource base in China, with proven reserves of coal and natural gas accounting for 1/6 and 1/3 of China respectively, and the development potential of wind and solar energy is more than 140 million kilowatts. In terms of green and low-carbon energy transformation, the installed capacity of new energy will strive to reach more than 50 million kilowatts by 2025, exceeding the total installed capacity of traditional thermal power generation. The world's first zero-carbon industrial park is being built, and the establishment of a system of regulations and standards is being explored on a pilot basis. It is planned that by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan", the output value of the new energy equipment manufacturing industry will exceed 500 billion yuan, which can consume 10 billion kWh of green electricity and reduce carbon emissions by 100 million tons per year.
In response to climate change, Suyaratu said that after decades of efforts, 3.2 million mu of Mu Us sandy land has been effectively governed, the vegetation of desertified land has been restored, and the ecosystem function has been continuously improved, making its own contribution to desertification prevention and control. On the new journey, Ordos will continue to uphold the green development concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", adhere to the Chinese path of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, and will also enhance its ability to adapt to and respond to climate change through pilot activities such as synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, zero-waste city, and regional reclaimed water recycling, so as to make Ordos contributions to global sustainable development.
