Since the launch of the national carbon emission trading market, the price of allowances has generally remained stable and rising. However, the overall quota price has risen recently, maintaining around 80 yuan/ton. In this regard, at a regular press conference held by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on October 27, Xia Yingxian, director of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that the moderate increase in carbon prices reflects its market attributes and is in line with the current reality.

According to Xia Yingxian, as of October 25, the cumulative turnover of carbon emission allowances was 365 million tons, the cumulative turnover was 19.437 billion yuan, and the carbon price was maintained at 50~80 yuan/ton, forming a carbon price in line with China's current reality. Subsequently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will study the establishment of a market regulation mechanism, and take measures such as early warning of performance risks to regulate the relationship between market supply and demand, enhance market vitality, and ensure the healthy, stable and orderly operation of the market.

Xia Yingxian said that the realization of the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality requires the joint efforts of the whole society, and it is urgent to include more eligible industries in the national carbon emission trading market to reduce the cost of emission reduction for the whole society. Every year, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) organizes and verifies annual carbon emission accounting reports in petrochemical, chemical, building materials, iron and steel, nonferrous metals, papermaking, civil aviation and other industries, collecting data from more than 6,000 enterprises, and the total direct emissions of the above seven industries and power generation industries account for more than 70% of the country. In the next step, priority will be given to industries that have made great contributions to the realization of the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, have serious overcapacity, have great potential for synergy in pollution reduction and carbon reduction, and have a good data quality foundation.
