SVOLT's first flying stack short knife energy storage cell rolled off the production line

Following the short-knife of power batteries, SVOLT will also implement the short-knife product strategy in the field of energy storage.

On October 25, SVOLT announced that its world's first flying stack short knife 325 Ah energy storage cell rolled off the assembly line at its Chengdu base on the same day.

The energy storage cell is designed with a short knife structure and is manufactured based on flystack technology, with a volumetric energy density of 165 Wh/kg and a cycle life of 12,000 times.

SVOLT said that the launch of this battery cell marks a substantial step forward in promoting the short-knife transformation of energy storage.

Short knife battery is a new battery category launched by SVOLT in 2019, and it is also its flagship product. In 2021, SVOLT announced at its second Battery Day that it would achieve short-knife products in the future, and in the same year, it achieved mass production of the first-generation short-knife lithium iron phosphate battery L600.

Depending on the packaging method, batteries can be divided into various types, such as cylindrical, prismatic and pouch. The short knife battery is a long and thin square cell, using a lamination process, and the size covers 300mm-600mm.

Yang Hongxin, chairman and CEO of SVOLT, once summarized the advantages of short knife batteries into three points, first of all, the improvement of volume energy density, because of its higher group efficiency, secondly, short knife products will reduce the connection and structural parts, reducing the overall cost of the battery system, and at the same time, short knife can improve the safety of the battery, the thickness of the battery has a great impact on safety, the thinner the battery is safer.

Flying stacking is the third generation of high-speed lamination technology released by SVOLT in 2022, named after its use of pole piece flying cutting and pole piece flying delivery technology, and the current efficiency can reach 0.125 seconds per piece, which is comparable to the efficiency of the winding process.

Lamination and winding are the core processes in cell assembly in the middle of cell production, with winding typically used for prismatic and cylindrical cells, and lamination for prismatic and pouch cells. Among them, winding has a longer development time than lamination, and the process is relatively mature.

Currently, the mainstream cell capacity for energy storage market applications is 280 Ah. With the continuous iteration of technology, the demand for battery cell capacity in the energy storage industry is increasing day by day, and it is moving towards the era of more than 300 Ah.

According to the incomplete combing of interface news, a number of battery cell manufacturers, including Haichen Energy Storage, Ruipu Lanjun, and Guoxuan Hi-Tech (002074.SZ), have released large-capacity batteries of more than 300 Ah, and EVE Lithium Energy (300014.SZ) and Xiongtao Co., Ltd. (002733.SZ) have also launched energy storage cells with a capacity of more than 500 Ah.

On the same day that the above-mentioned energy storage cells went offline, SVOLT held a syndicate signing ceremony for the Chengdu base. The participating syndicates include China Construction Bank, Bank of China, China Everbright Bank, etc., and through this signing, SVOLT Chengdu Base has received 7.5 billion yuan of financial support.

SVOLT Chengdu base is the company's first short-knife fly-stack production base in southwest China, which was signed and established in 2021, with a total investment of about 22 billion yuan and a planned total production capacity of 60 GWh, mainly responsible for the R&D and production of power batteries and energy storage batteries, and its main products include fly-stack short-knife 325 Ah energy storage cells and PHEV L400 cells, covering domestic and foreign markets.

beeNest Energy has also made international development, and has recently won a large order from a European OEM, a battery pack order with a total scale of 5.48 GWh from Stellantis, a world-renowned automobile manufacturing company, and an energy storage order of more than 20 GWh in Europe.
