For a long time, the traditional utilization method of coke oven gas, converter gas, and blast furnace gas in the steel coking industry is combustion or power generation, which leads to the industry's problems of high energy consumption and large carbon dioxide emissions. In the future, carbon emissions will surely become the lifeline of enterprises. To cultivate new productivity, traditional industries must attach importance to integrated development with the "double carbon" goal and strive to be the "vanguard" of green development.

Against the background of the country's in-depth implementation of the carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategy, Shanxi Jinnan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. has created a new model for coupled carbon reduction in the four major industries of steel, coking, chemical industry, and hydrogen energy, and explored a new path for the modernization, transformation and development of traditional industries., providing a typical sample for high-quality development of the entire industry.

The "Steel Coking and Hydrogen" integrated cogeneration project uses tail gas from the steel-making and coking process as raw materials to produce an annual output of 300,000 tons of ethylene glycol and 150,000 tons of liquefied natural gas to achieve "chemical fixation"; the by-product hydrogen is sent to the blast furnace for hydrogen energy smelting, and also serves as a heavy energy source for hydrogen fuel cells to achieve "reducing carbon with hydrogen".

At present, the standard value of carbon emission per ton of steel in the steel industry is about 1.8 tons. After Jinnan Iron and Steel has adopted the co-production application of "steel coking hydrogen", the carbon emission value per ton of steel has been reduced to about 1.4 tons. Carbon emissions per ton of steel, comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel, comprehensive power consumption per ton of steel, comprehensive power consumption per ton of steel are at the leading level in the industry.

Hydrogen energy is an ideal clean energy and an important way to promote energy structure transformation and achieve the "double carbon" goal. Relying on the "Steel Coking Hydrogen" full-cycle low-carbon industrial chain, Jinnan Iron and Steel continues to expand hydrogen energy application scenarios. By promoting hydrogen energy heavy trucks, Jinnan Iron and Steel strives to build the Group into a green steel benchmark enterprise for growth processes, effectively improve the regional ecological environment, and achieve green and low-carbon High-quality development.

Jinnan Iron and Steel has the world's largest hydrogen refueling station, with a maximum daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 9000 kilograms; at the same time, the second hydrogen refueling station with a daily output of 9000 kilograms is stepping up construction and is expected to be completed and put into operation in August this year. Except for part of Jinnan Steel's hydrogen used for production, most of it can be used for hydrogen energy heavy trucks. Currently, 400 hydrogen energy heavy trucks have been put into operation.

In terms of future planning for the hydrogen energy industry, Jinnan Iron and Steel will focus on the layout of the hydrogen refueling network, work with strategic partners to promote the listing and trading of hydrogen refueling stations, and achieve high returns, high growth, and high value-added industries through a market-oriented operation model, forming a new model for industrial co-construction and win-win development; With the goal of promoting zero-carbon logistics platforms, we will firmly seize the development opportunity of regional steel, coking, and cement enterprises to achieve A-A environmental performance, optimize and integrate bulk freight resources, rationally plan and build hydrogen refueling stations, comprehensively promote the use of hydrogen energy heavy trucks, and help South Shanxi Steel and coking enterprises reduce transportation costs, reduce corporate carbon emissions, and achieve A-A environmental performance and high-quality development.

The comprehensive layout of photovoltaic green power is an important manifestation of Jinnan Steel's implementation of green development. Over the years, Jinnan Iron and Steel has seized the opportunity of my country to vigorously develop the photovoltaic industry, building it must be built when appropriate, and seizing the commanding heights. The company cooperated with China Huaneng to build a 1300-megawatt photovoltaic "new energy + energy storage" project. The first phase of the 300-megawatt photovoltaic project has been connected to the grid for full-capacity power generation in June 2023, effectively reducing carbon emissions. Subsequently, Jinnan Iron and Steel will use photovoltaic to produce hydrogen and oxygen for steel production, providing a strong guarantee for creating a full-process green steel, iron, coke and chemical industry.

Jinnan Iron and Steel is also actively carrying out energy storage projects, planning and building shared energy storage, wind power and electrolyzed water hydrogen production projects, etc., continuously strengthening scientific and technological innovation in the new energy industry chain, and effectively activating the new productivity of Jinnan Steel.

In the future, Jinnan Iron and Steel will focus on green and low-carbon frontiers, cultivate new productivity in accelerating green technological innovation and strengthening green energy industries, further enrich new energy application scenarios, and strive to achieve "1 ton of steel" for long-process steel enterprises within three years. The goal of "1 ton of carbon emissions" has become a domestic green steel benchmark enterprise. At the same time, Jinnan Iron and Steel will also give full play to the leading and demonstration role of the "chain owner" enterprises in the local hydrogen energy industry chain, cooperate closely with upstream and downstream enterprises, accelerate the cultivation of new quality productivity, continue to promote the quality improvement and upgrading of the new energy industry, and achieve mutual benefit. The new development model will be extended to more brother companies, compete together for new green tracks, inject new vitality into green, low-carbon and high-quality development, and create greater value for society.
