Visiting villages and townships, 18 college students in Guangdong won national awards for their green projects

A few days ago, the "Carbon Sequestration Forest and Glorious Village" practice group of Guangdong Environmental Protection Engineering Vocational College won the "Excellent Practice Result Award" in the 2023 Youth Green Long March Scientific Expedition Practice Activity of "Beautiful China Youth Action", and is the only award-winning university in Guangdong Province.

In July 2023, the "Carbon Sequestration Forest and Glorious Village" practice group of Guangdong Environmental Protection Engineering Vocational College carried out a week-long "Beautiful China Youth Action" 2023 Youth Green Long March Scientific Expedition Practice Activity. The team is composed of 18 students from 5 majors such as industrial energy-saving technology of the School of Energy Conservation and Safety, combined with professional advantages, with the practical theme of "green and low-carbon development and empowering a better future", to carry out a series of research and popular science publicity activities such as rural forestry and photovoltaic carbon sink research, photovoltaic lamp installation, river garbage disposal, water quality testing and energy-saving knowledge publicity, covering Zhenjiang Town, Shigu Town, Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province, and Danzao Town, Foshan City.

In rural areas, the development of forestry carbon sequestration and rural photovoltaic can promote each other to form a sustainable rural development model. Through questionnaire surveys, interviews and field visits, the team collected a large amount of data, which not only grasped the understanding and recognition of forestry carbon sequestration and rural photovoltaic related policies among local villagers, but also provided ways and suggestions for local villages to use huge mountain forest resources for forestry carbon sequestration and participate in carbon trading. At the same time, it provides a path and mechanism for exploring forestry carbon sinks to help rural revitalization and promote green and low-carbon development in rural areas. The team also used advanced drone technology to map, map and analyze rural rooftops, providing basic research for the promotion of rooftop PV.

The person in charge of Guangdong Environmental Protection Engineering Vocational College said that the college has been innovating the practice education mechanism for a long time, taking the "three to the countryside" as one of the main practice platforms, integrating the college's scientific research practice, professional education and other characteristic resources, continuing to promote the standardization, specialization and scientific development of environmental protection science popularization volunteer service, and establishing long-term and stable cooperative relations with off-campus practice bases, so that the "three to the countryside" will be transformed into "often going to the countryside" and "often in the countryside", and guiding the students of Guangzhou University to strive to be an important practitioner of "green and low-carbon, beautiful China". It is understood that the 2023 Youth Green Long March Scientific Expedition Practice Activity of "Beautiful China Youth Action" is hosted by the Social Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Propaganda Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and Beijing Forestry University, and undertaken by the National Youth Ecological Civilization Education Center, the Innovation and Development Center for Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities (Beijing Forestry University), and the Institute of Ecological Protection and High-quality Development of the Yellow River Basin of Beijing Forestry University. With the theme of "Harmonious Coexistence between Man and Nature and Practicing the Road of Green Development", the event will focus on the protected areas, rivers and towns of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yellow River Basin, the Yangtze River Basin and the four ecological civilization pilot zones to carry out green scientific research, ecological propaganda and environmental protection actions, witness the "green heritage" of Chinese modernization, and tell the "green story" of China's rapid development.
