The reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission today that the biogas cogeneration project of Gaobeidian Reclaimed Water Plant has been connected to the grid for power generation.

The biogas cogeneration project of Gaobeidian Water Reclamation Plant is a key renewable energy power generation project in Beijing and an excellent pilot project of advanced low-carbon technology in Beijing, with a total installed capacity of 6.4 MW and a total of 4 biogas generating units. Through thermal hydrolysis and advanced anaerobic digestion, the sludge from the Gaobeidian Water Reclamation Plant can produce more than 20 million cubic meters of biogas per year. After the project is put into operation, the biogas can be recycled and recycled through cogeneration. At present, the generator set has been connected to the 10 thousand volt power grid of Gaobeidian Reclaimed Water Plant, and the generated power will be used for the self-use production of the water plant.

It is understood that the project is expected to generate 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, accounting for about 22% of the annual electricity consumption of the whole plant, which can greatly reduce the cost of purchased electricity. At the same time, the annual carbon dioxide emission reduction is about 18,000 tons, which has significant energy saving and carbon reduction benefits.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, in order to improve the efficiency of renewable energy application, Beijing has built and implemented five biogas cogeneration projects, including Gaobeidian Reclaimed Water Plant, Gaoantun Reclaimed Water Plant, Qinghe Second Reclaimed Water Plant, Xiaohongmen Reclaimed Water Plant, and Huaifang Reclaimed Water Plant. The remaining four projects are progressing in an orderly manner and are expected to be connected to the grid next year. By then, the total installed capacity of the five projects will reach 26.8 megawatts, with an annual power generation capacity of about 120 million kilowatt hours, and a cumulative annual reduction of about 53,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
