Jiangsu Taixing built a natural gas hydrogen blending station to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 21,600 tons per year

Recently, in Taixing Economic Development Zone, Jiangsu Province, the first natural gas hydrogen blending station built by Taixing Xinao Gas Co., Ltd. invested 10 million yuan successfully completed the commissioning and trial operation, and is expected to complete the acceptance by the end of this month and can be officially operated in May. It is reported that the first station will cover some industrial users in the park in the early stage, and the coverage will be gradually expanded after safe and stable operation.

Due to its carbon-free and renewable properties, hydrogen has inherent advantages and broad application prospects in future energy applications. The use of in-service natural gas pipelines for hydrogen blending transportation is considered by the industry to be one of the important directions to realize the large-scale transportation of hydrogen energy and solve the mismatch between hydrogen energy supply and demand in the future. This technology can deliver hydrogen efficiently and cost-effectively, enabling large-scale renewable energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions from natural gas utilization. The coupling development of natural gas and hydrogen also has a green and low-carbon value that is different from other fossil energy sources.

"Taixing Economic Development Zone is rich in industrial by-product hydrogen energy resources, and in order to improve the utilization rate of clean energy, we are actively exploring hydrogen energy utilization scenarios. Yan Ronghua, director of the Taixing Development and Reform Commission, said that the project makes full use of the surplus hydrogen of Xinpu Chemical, and blends hydrogen according to 10% of the volume of natural gas, which can realize real-time data transmission and remote valve control of the intelligent operation center. "According to the daily hydrogen blending capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, the station will have a hydrogen blending capacity of 2.4 million cubic meters during the year, which can replace and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,184 tons. ”

In order to further improve the utilization rate of clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, develop hydrogen energy utilization scenarios, and alleviate the pressure on natural gas supply, the Taixing Municipal Development and Reform Commission has invited experts to fully demonstrate on the basis of the "Opinions on Improving the Institutional Mechanism and Policy Measures for Green and Low-carbon Energy Transformation" and the "Medium and Long-term Plan for the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035)". Enterprises such as Xinpu Chemical use by-product hydrogen, carry out natural gas hydrogen blending cooperation with urban gas enterprises, and use the existing mature natural gas pipeline network to realize long-distance and low-cost transportation of hydrogen energy.

"With the increase of gas consumption of downstream customers and the improvement of hydrogen blending technology, the proportion of hydrogen blending can be gradually increased, and the hydrogen consumption will be higher and higher, which will play an active role in energy conservation and emission reduction, carbon footprint certification and other aspects for enterprises. Ji Liugen, deputy general manager of Taixing Xinao Gas Co., Ltd., said that the company plans to start construction of the second phase of the hydrogen blending station this month, and strive to complete and put into operation before the end of June. The two stations are expected to consume up to 10 million cubic meters of hydrogen annually and reduce CO2 emissions by at least 21,600 tons per year.
