Sinochem New Network News Ascend Performance Materials today announced that it has opened a new Thermal Reduction Unit (TRU) at its Pensacola, Florida site, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the production of adipic acid by more than 98%. To date, Ascend has invested more than $50 million in greenhouse gas reduction.

According to reports, the TRU project uses an advanced high-temperature reduction process to decompose nitrous oxide. The plant is equipped with a management control system that ensures that emission reductions meet internationally recognized standards and requirements through calibrated flow rates and real-time continuous monitoring of concentrations and total emissions (CEMS), as well as third-party certification audits.

Ascend said the company is committed to sustainability, has a Vision for Sustainability 2030, and recently announced that it will increase its Scope 1 greenhouse gas reduction target to 90%. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, Ascend has upgraded its production facilities and built renewable energy facilities at its global production sites to minimize the use of carbon-based fuels and increase the use of renewable energy.
