From 26 February to 1 March, the 6th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya. Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, led the delegation, and a delegation from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Water Resources, the China Meteorological Administration and other relevant departments, as well as the Chinese Embassy in Kenya and the Permanent Representative Office to the United Nations Environment Programme attended the meeting.
Huang Runqiu made a country address at the plenary session of the high-level segment of the General Assembly held on February 29. He said that climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution are the three major challenges facing human society. Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral action is a key measure and the only way to address global environmental challenges and achieve sustainable development. Guided by the concept of ecological civilization, China has incorporated the solution of environmental problems in various fields into the mainstream process of economic and social development, strengthened the coordinated promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, coordinated the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements, and strived to build a modern society in which man and nature coexist in harmony, and built the world's largest clean power generation system and carbon market, with the area of nature reserves and terrestrial ecological protection redlines accounting for more than 18% and 30% of the land area respectively, and the national average concentration of fine particulate matter has decreased by 35% in the past eight years. As the presidency of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, China will work with the international community to promote the ambitious, pragmatic and balanced Kunmeng Framework and launch implementation initiatives to promote the green Belt and Road Initiative, and strive to make China's contribution to building a clean and beautiful world.

During the conference, Huang Runqiu held bilateral talks with President Benelli, UNEP Executive Director Andersson, and ministerial representatives from Canada, North Korea, Germany, Iran, Norway, Uzbekistan and other countries to exchange views on strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the field of environment and climate and promoting positive outcomes of the conference.
The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) is the highest decision-making mechanism on global environmental issues. The theme of this year's conference is "Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral action to address climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution". More than 5,500 delegates from 180 UN Member States and major stakeholder groups, relevant UN agencies, intergovernmental organizations and international conventions attended the meeting.
