"Beautiful Shaanxi - Energy Transition and Climate Communication Salon of Traditional Villages" was held in Xi'an
On November 29, in order to further promote the comprehensive treatment of air pollution in autumn and winter and help fight the battle of pollution prevention and control, the Xi'an Smart Environmental Protection Comprehensive Command Center and Air Man jointly launched the autumn and winter air pollution prevention and control publicity activities with the theme of "Ecological Xi'an, You and I Build Together". On the same day, supported by the China Association for the Promotion of NGO Cooperation and hosted by Air Man, the "Beautiful Shaanxi - Energy Transition and Climate Communication Salon in Traditional Villages" was held in Xi'an Smart Environmental Protection Integrated Command Center. Representatives from the Shaanxi Academy of Social Sciences, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, business representatives, media practitioners, social organizations and other fields participated in the discussion.
Under the leadership of the staff of the command center, Airman and representatives from various fields visited the publicity and education science corner on the theme of ecological and environmental protection. In the on-site explanation of the staff, they deepened their understanding of the process of ecological environment governance and the importance of practicing the "Ten Citizens". "The wisdom of climate resilience is not only in the cities, but also in the countryside. The picture of communicating with the Internet celebrity uncle in Baishe Village, Sanyuan County is vivid. In the salon session, Li Bingnan, Climate Communication Specialist of Airman, shared the case of energy transition research and interviews carried out in traditional villages in Guanzhong District, Shaanxi Province. From the pit courtyards that are warm in winter and cool in summer under the horizon to the characteristic lanes that are not afraid of wind and dust, in the context of coping with climate change, the climate adaptation wisdom of traditional residential buildings needs to be seen more and more. In the case of Lingquan Village, the traditional village has adopted some climate-adaptation wisdom in terms of architecture, such as the architectural structure of the courtyard house and the waterlogging pond system. These traditional wisdoms help to keep the temperature inside the house pleasant and reduce the dependence on energy. She sees exploring how to combine traditional buildings with modern low-carbon technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions as an opportunity to combat climate change. After the case study, some reflections on the dilemma of rural climate communication are proposed, such as "the interaction between post-vernacular and climate change", "the climate vulnerability of cultural space", and "the challenge of commercialization and climate change adaptation". She said that she will use the big platform of COP28 to spread China's local climate story.
"As a pilot county of rooftop distributed photovoltaic in Shaanxi Province, Donggaoyuan Village in Duanjia Town, Dali County has also entered our field of vision," said Zhao Liang, founder of Airman, "A traditional village that dates back more than 1,700 years is now rejuvenated by distributed photovoltaics." There are more than 480 households in the village. More than 200 households have installed rooftop photovoltaic products, with an average annual income of about 2,000 yuan. "How to make good use of photovoltaic products, look good and use them, so that the people can really benefit, and at the same time help the process of rural energy revolution, still needs continuous attention from all walks of life.
"On the eve of COP28, it is my pleasure to share the case of LONGi's local zero-carbon village in Shaanxi. As a leading global photovoltaic industry leader headquartered in Xi'an, LONGi has shipped more than 290GW of photovoltaic silicon wafers since 2012, and it is estimated that the cumulative power generation capacity by the end of 2022 will exceed 1,148.2 million kWh, which is equivalent to avoiding 536 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions for the world. Based on the international development needs of the photovoltaic industry, LONGi is currently the only Chinese company that has joined RE100, EV100, EP100 and science-based targets (SBTi) climate-related initiatives, and has taken "green power + green hydrogen" as the future development direction to help the world achieve carbon neutrality goals at a lower cost. On the distributed photovoltaic business side, LONGi has achieved good environmental and social benefits in the practice of zero-carbon villages in Kefang, Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City.
Kefang Village, Yaozhou District, Tongchuan City, is the first pilot project for household photovoltaic rural revitalization in Shaanxi Province. It involves more than 200 villagers, with a total roof area of 30,000 square meters, 2,000 square meters of idle land and a total installation area of 32,000 square meters, with an installed capacity of 6MW. According to the basic power generation estimate, the total power generation of Kefang Village in 30 years is 237.38 million kWh, with an average annual power generation of 7.91 million kWh and an average annual power generation income of about 2.81 million yuan. Through the integration of multiple resources, the establishment of an innovative mechanism for village collective companies, the linkage of inclusive financial services and the transformation of the rural power grid of the State Grid, and the promotion of photovoltaic investment, construction and operation of the whole village, the project has realized a new model of green and low-carbon energy transformation and the development of emerging industries in traditional villages, which has been replicated and promoted in many places.
Focusing on "Rural Energy Transition", "How to Do a Good Job in Climate Communication", "Application of Photovoltaics in Rural Areas", etc., the participants had a positive interaction with case sharers. Through the interaction of multiple perspectives, the public's attention to the issue of rural energy transition has also been further enhanced. Excavating and disseminating Shaanxi's local climate action stories is inseparable from the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, scientific research institutions, social organizations, media and the public. We look forward to seeing more stories of climate action from Chinese companies and rural areas on the international stage, gathering more consensus, and contributing wisdom to sustainable climate action!
According to reports, the "Chivalry - Energy Transition and Climate Communication Plan in Traditional Villages" is a climate communication project planned and implemented by Air Man with the support of the CN program. This issue focuses on clean rural heating in the northern region under the dual carbon goal, based on five typical traditional cultural villages with research foundations, and links grassroots government departments, college students, village officials, scientific research institutions, university associations, and intangible cultural heritage inheritors to carry out public activities that integrate energy transition and climate science popularization (photography tour, short video/ documentaries, etc.), through cross-border linkage and urban-rural interaction, explore and disseminate stories of energy substitution and climate action with local characteristics, improve the climate communication capacity of traditional villages, and provide a warm and interesting sample reference for rural climate response and beautiful rural construction.
