The International Comprehensive Science Center Symposium was held in Beijing to explore new mechanisms for breakthroughs in scientific research achievements

The 2023 Zhongguancun Forum Series ActivitiesThe 5th International Comprehensive Science Center Symposium was held in Beijing from October 12 to 13, with the theme of "Openness, Sharing, Cooperative Innovation", and released two major achievements: "Biomimetic Low-carbon New Building Materials" and "Belt and Road" High-quality Development Report - Scientific and Technological Innovation and Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

  About 300 people, including representatives of well-known experts from Germany, Switzerland, Spain and other countries and regions, domestic comprehensive national science centers and experts and scholars in related fields, and heads of relevant departments such as Beijing and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, exchanged in-depth advanced experience and effective practices in the construction and operation of science centers at home and abroad, and the opening and sharing of facilities, and actively explored new models and mechanisms for using major scientific and technological infrastructure to achieve breakthroughs in major original scientific research achievements.

  This seminar focused on the introduction and release of two major achievements, the release of the "Initiative on Jointly Promoting the Open Cooperation of Science and Technology Facility Platforms", and a number of wonderful reports.

  Two major results were released

  The two major achievements are "Biomimetic Low-carbon New Building Materials" and "Belt and Road" High-quality Development Report - Scientific and Technological Innovation and Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has designed a "new biomimetic low-carbon building material", which can be prepared under low temperature and atmospheric pressure using solid particles such as desert sand, sea sand, and slag, which provides a new idea for reducing carbon emissions in the construction field and helping to achieve the "double carbon" goal.

  In addition, led by Academician Bai Chunli, 10 academicians and experts organized the compilation of the book "High-quality Development Report of the Belt and Road Initiative - Scientific and Technological Innovation and Scientific and Technological Cooperation", focusing on the fields of "health", "green", "digital" and "innovation", discussing key development directions, and putting forward targeted suggestions to provide assistance for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

  Promote the release of the initiative on the openness and cooperation of science and technology facility platforms

  During the seminar, the International Cooperation Alliance of the National Science Center issued the "Initiative on Jointly Promoting the Open Cooperation of Science and Technology Facility Platforms", which mainly includes five aspects. The first is to build an open and inclusive platform for scientific and technological cooperation, the second is to jointly carry out cooperation in high-level scientific and technological projects, the third is to strengthen research cooperation on global issues, the fourth is to create an open and cooperative innovation ecosystem, and the fifth is to support the exchange and cultivation of international innovative talents.

  More than 20 academic reports were presented

  Experts and scholars from a number of scientific research institutions at home and abroad made more than 20 academic reports online and offline, according to the type of public platform construction and subject area, fully demonstrating and exchanging the experience of facility platform construction, management and operation, as well as the achievements in the frontiers of material, space and earth sciences, and further playing the role of the symposium in promoting the construction and operation of science centers in various countries, openness and sharing, scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation.

  Yang Xiuling, Director of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, introduced the progress of the construction of the Beijing Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center during the seminar. Yang Xiuling said that the center has laid out a total of 37 science and technology facility platform projects in three categories. It has gathered 6 national key laboratories, 19 research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 universities, 3 new R&D institutions and 2 R&D institutions of central enterprises, and the number of scientific researchers in Huai is about 23,000. The construction of a collaborative and efficient innovation ecosystem is accelerating.

  Yang Xiuling said that in the next step, Beijing will speed up the construction of the world's major scientific centers and innovation highlands, and contribute to the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement and the construction of a scientific and technological power. Beijing Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center will seize the opportunity of this symposium to fully promote the openness and sharing of Huairou Science Center.
