Recently, as one of the 102 key projects of the country during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the underground plant of the first pumped storage power station in South China has been excavated, which marks that the pumped storage power station project has entered a new stage of mechanical and electrical installation.
It is understood that the excavation of the pumped storage power station underground plant is located in Wuming District, Nanning City, Guangxi, the underground plant is nearly 300 meters from the ground vertical distance, about 100 floors high, the plant is 180 meters long, 26 meters wide, 57 meters high, the volume is equivalent to the size of 130 standard swimming pools. As the "heart" of the pumped storage power station, the next step of the plant will be to install key equipment such as pump turbines and power generation motors, and arrange multiple systems such as water, oil, gas, ventilation and fire protection. Entering a new stage of construction, the operation of multiple construction surfaces such as underground caverns and upper and lower reservoirs is also accelerating at the same time. From the end of 2024, the lower reservoir and the upper reservoir will reach the water storage conditions, with a total water storage of 12.4 million cubic meters, equivalent to the water volume of a West Lake.
It is understood that the main project of Nanning Pumped Storage Power Station will start in July 2022 and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2025, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and a total investment of about 8 billion yuan, which can consume up to 2.5 billion kWh of clean energy per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.9 million tons.
The power station has two reservoirs on and below, when the electricity consumption is low at night, the water from the reservoir under the mountain is pumped to the mountain, and at the peak of electricity consumption during the day, the water is released to generate electricity, which is equivalent to storing electricity, which can be called at any time to help the peak power grid power generation, and can smoothly help wind power, photovoltaic power generation and other unstable new energy sources to access the power grid on a large scale and high proportion, known as the "battery" of the power grid. and "regulator", which is currently the most mature, economical and reliable large-scale energy storage facility.
The Nanning Pumped Storage Power Station has strong demonstration significance for Guangxi to accelerate the construction of pumped storage power stations, and will promote the interconnection between the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the field of clean energy industry.
