According to Agence France-Presse, the NGO Carbon Market Watch believes that with almost 100 days to go before the opening of the Games, Paris 2024 has made "appropriate" efforts, but "not enough", and called for "radical" reforms.

According to the report, the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee said last year that it hoped to reduce carbon pollution by half compared with previous Olympic Games.

Benha Fix, an expert at Carbon Market Watch, said: "We applaud them for setting a carbon budget ahead of the Olympics. ”

The Paris Olympics are expected to emit 1.58 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is less than half the average of 3.5 million tonnes emitted by the London and Rio Olympics.

The Carbon Market Watch warned that the target was "ambitious" but "difficult to verify". The group's climate strategy for the Paris Olympics remains "incomplete," "lacks transparency," and "does not disclose any modality or precise calculation methodology," the group said in a report.

The group believes that the efforts of Olympic organizers to make such an important event greener "should be commended", but that the carbon footprint of the Games is "still too high to be sustainable". A head of the organization concluded that the efforts made were "encouraging", but that "more needs to be done". (Compiled by Liu Zhuo)
