A few days ago, the State Council issued a notice on the "Action Plan for Promoting Large-scale Equipment Renewal and Trade-in of Consumer Goods". This marks the opening of a new round of basic, technological and innovative investment and consumption led by China's market and guided by the government.

The implementation of the trade-in policy plays a very important role in boosting consumption and stimulating the economy. However, how to deal with the replaced products cannot be ignored, once not properly disposed of, it will not only increase waste, but also may leave ecological and environmental safety hazards. Many times, some of the products that we obsolete for various reasons can be completely reused by others. Recycling has very considerable resource and environmental benefits, only taking carbon emission reduction as an example, data show that the recycling of a piece of clothing can reduce carbon emissions by an average of 0.72 kilograms, and a mobile phone participating in idle transactions can reduce carbon emissions by 21.34 kilograms. In view of this, in the process of promoting the trade-in, it is necessary to improve the recycling system, avoid the waste of resources as much as possible, and make the best use of materials to the greatest extent.

At a time when online shopping has become the mainstream way of shopping, the quality of service of online second-hand trading platforms directly affects people's enthusiasm for trading idle items and the circulation speed of idle items. However, the author found that at present, on the second-hand trading platform, the products are mixed, and it is often difficult to sell the real idle items quickly. Taking the second-hand trading platform Xianyu as an example, the products it sells are mixed with the old and new, and many merchants who sell idle items sell new products under the banner of selling idle items, and individual sellers who sell idle items often do not get drainage and attention, resulting in the difficulty of selling old items. The problem of mixing good and bad old things on the platform is also prominent. Many high-imitation products cut off the label and pretend to be genuine, and consumers are difficult to distinguish between the real and the fake. Many consumers believe that the idle trading platform is "too deep" and dare not set foot easily. To break the "intestinal obstruction" between the buying and selling of second-hand goods, on the one hand, it is necessary for the trading platform to take the initiative to assume social responsibility, improve the algorithm mechanism, accurately match the needs of users, and push more idle items to those in need. On the other hand, trading platforms and regulatory authorities need to strengthen management, intensify efforts to crack down on counterfeit and shoddy goods, and safeguard the rights and interests of consumers.

Judging from the user portrait of Xianyu, the post-95 young people are the main force in the buying and selling of idle items. There is still potential for other age groups to be tapped. The author found that many people are currently biased against buying second-hand items. For example, "the products used by others are not clean", "it is unlucky to buy second-hand products", etc. To break this traditional notion, on the one hand, it is necessary to strengthen publicity and make people realize that buying second-hand goods can not only save money, but also greatly reduce carbon emissions and resource and energy consumption, and contribute to society. On the other hand, second-hand platforms can also increase user stickiness by establishing communities. For example, the "fish pond" in Xianyu builds a community sharing model based on geographical location or hobbies, so that people can buy second-hand products not only because they are cheap, but also because buyers and sellers have emotional resonance.

For products that have been used for many years and cannot be reused and need to be eliminated, they are sent to a regular dismantling plant so that the resources in them can be recycled, which is also an important aspect of recycling. Data shows that for every 1 ton of waste household appliances recycled, the dismantled renewable resources can reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide by about 4.7 tons. However, at present, China's formal recycling points are far from enough, and some data show that China's waste household appliances are recycled through formal channels, and the proportion of environmentally friendly dismantling and recycling accounts for only about 20%. In many communities, the recycling of household appliances is mainly played by "guerrillas", which also brings environmental hazards such as unauthorized dismantling. It is imperative to establish regular recycling points as soon as possible to achieve environmentally friendly dismantling and reuse.

Recently, data released by Xianyu shows that in the past year, 4 million idle items have been released on Xianyu every day. The implementation of the trade-in policy will speed up the upgrading of consumer goods such as household appliances, and it is conceivable that more household appliances and other products that have been replaced will need to be disposed of this year. It is hoped that all parties will work together to open up all aspects of recycling as soon as possible, so that the eliminated old things can find a home and get a new life.
